Luxury brands targeted as Gourmet Traveller revamps under new editor
David Meagher says he was hired, in part, because of his familiarity with luxury brands
“If you tinker with special editions of the magazine you do it at your peril,” new Gourmet Traveller editor David Meagher told Mumbrella just days before the popular annual Italian-themed edition is published.
The Are Media monthly changed editors late last year, with Meagher becoming the custodian of the brand as it celebrates its sixtieth year of publication.
Meagher comes to Gourmet Traveller after crafting lifestyle editorial for Fairfax (The AFR) and News Corp (Wish magazine) for the past 25 years. In between he also spent time as the managing editor at the recent Mumbrella Publish Awards-winner, The Local Project.
Meagher explained he was attracted to the Gourmet Traveller role for its scope. “The audience is a much bigger audience than the print audience.”
