Mad Max: Fury Road named Best Film while Peter Allen miniseries takes home five AACTAs
Action movie Mad Max: Fury Road was named the best Australian film of the year while Seven’s Peter Allen miniseries Not The Boy Next Door dominated the TV categories at the AACTA awards last night.
A tearful Cate Blanchett also accepted one of Australian acting’s highest awards last night being awarded the Longford Lyell Award for outstanding contribution.
Blanchett received tributes from some of the world’s biggest names in film, including Martin Scorsese, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Robert Redford, Ridley Scott and Ron Howard and made an impassioned call for more Australian actors on screen.
“We should be bloody proud of it [the local industry], we don’t need to go to another country,” said Blanchett as she recently sold her Hunters Hill Palace and moved to Los Angeles.
