Mad Max: Fury Road named Best Film while Peter Allen miniseries takes home five AACTAs

Cate BlancettAction movie Mad Max: Fury Road was named the best Australian film of the year while Seven’s Peter Allen mini­series Not The Boy Next Door dominated the TV categories at the AACTA awards last night.

A tearful Cate Blanchett also accepted one of Australian acting’s highest awards last night being awarded the Longford Lyell Award for outstanding contribution.

Blanchett received tributes from some of the world’s biggest names in film, including Martin Scorsese, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Robert Redford, Ridley Scott and Ron Howard and made an impassioned call for more Australian actors on screen.
