Mambo Australia: Asylum seekers want to come to Australia for the sunbathing
Dr Mumbo is not entirely sure that Mambo Australia really has a sense of the difference between good taste and remarkably poor taste when it comes to social media marketing.
“28 deg. today with the sun gently basting naked beach bodies. Reason #27 why those poor asylum seekers would risk their life to get here?”
As examples of marketing board shorts through geopolitcal commentary goes, this one is not a winner.
Adding the word “poor” does not turn a crass tweet into a senstive one…
As the person who pointed it out to Dr Mumbo puts it: “As if people who arrive in leaky boats, risking death and escaping persecution care about beach bodies. Mambo needs to take a serious look at themselves.”
Update. Now they’re sorry:
You could say that they’re producing content that their demographic wants to read?
And no response despite being posted 2 hours ago and with the obvs distaste shown by followers. Mambo – you need to respond faster than that (if indeed you think it’s in poor taste like the rest of us).
They’ve deleted the tweet and issued an apology – https://twitter.com/mamboaustralia/status/253732469629648896
“There’s a fine line between irreverence and bad taste. We overstepped the mark. We are idiots. Apologies. #sorry”
