Technology and social media news website Mashable is to launch an Australian operation and has appointed News.com.au multimedia editor Jenni Ryall as its editor.

The move was announced overnight and also sees the website, founded by Pete Cashmore in 2005, appoint Inception Digital as its Australian media agency of record.

“As our audience of highly engaged, connected readers continues to grow in Australia, we’re excited to expand our footprint into one of our fastest-growing markets,” said Jim Roberts, chief content officer and executive editor of Mashable.
