Former DraftFCB creative director Mat Garbutt joins Melbourne indie Fenton Stephens
Mat Garbutt, who was executive creative director at DraftFCB Melbourne before the agency folded last year, has emerged at Melbourne independent agency Fenton Stephens.
Alex Fenton, the agency’s co-founder and creative director, confirmed the news, but said that a job title had not yet been decided for Garbutt, who had been freelancing for a while at former agency Grey Melbourne.
“I guess Mat’s my creative partner, but we haven’t even got round to sorting out a job title,” Fenton told Mumbrella.
“For some people, a job title is very important. Others realise that if I put on my business card all the things I do, it just wouldn’t be big enough.”
“Mat will be a fantastic mentor for our younger writers,” he said.
Among Garbutt’s first contributions to Fenton Stephens was a role in writing the ‘Are you ready to stand out?” Protective Services Officers campaign for Victoria Police.
DraftFCB Melbourne closed after losing key client Honda last September.
Great get.
Mat is one of the good guys.
Nice guy. Nice agency. Nice fit.
Great move by Fenton Stephens. Matt is a true copywriter and damn smart thinker.
