M+C Saatchi AUNZ’s chief executive officer Michael McEwan is departing the agency to take the helm at Droga5 Melbourne.
Starting later this month, McEwan will be the agency’s new director of Melbourne, with responsibilities including building the team and cementing its position in market.
McEwan said there is “enormous opportunity” in Melbourne to “unleash” the creative depth of the agency and the capabilities of Accenture Song. He described the agency’s reputation as “culturally resonant”.
“While others talk about the future, Droga5 and Accenture Song are actively shaping it — I’m looking forward to contributing to that momentum,” he said in a media release on Wednesday.

He joins after five years with M+C, half of that time spent as the local CEO. Under his leadership, the agency secured major clients and delivered award-winning campaigns, taking home gongs at the Effies, D&AD, Cannes Lions, and more.
Prior to that, McEwan held senior roles at Ogilvy Australia, DDB Group, and BBDO Worldwide.
Droga5 ANZ’s CEO, Matt Michael, described him as a “natural collaborator”, adding that he has a “strong track record of pushing for great work and building exceptional teams”.
“As we continue to shape Droga5 in Australia and New Zealand, I’m thrilled to have Michael join us,” Michael said in the release.
Droga5 ANZ has had a strong start to the year, with recent campaign launches from new client Seek Australia and SBS.
Last month, it promoted Kit Lansdell to head of effectiveness, to build on the agency’s “effectiveness legacy”.
Earlier this year, however, the agency farewelled chief creative Tara Ford, as she is heading overseas to take the helm at the London office.
