Media agencies consider staff super fund

Australia’s media agencies are contemplating starting their own staff superannuation fund.

The plan is on the list of the Media Federation of Australia’s forthcoming priorities.

In an interview with Mumbrella, new MFA president Henry Tajer told Mumbrella that the plan would potentially see the fund as an employee benefit offering lower management fees to staff.

Tajer said: “Within the advertising sector… there are significant amounts of superannuation that are distributed across many different super funds. A number of other industries inthe last few years have taken the step to create their own industry fund. Those industry funds allow them to offer their employees benefits such as lower fees.”

He described the idea as a “seedling” at this stage.

If a media agency super fund did get off the ground, it would be potential competition for Media Super which is focused on the print, media, entertainment and arts industry.
