Mel Gibson movie Get The Gringo debuts weakly at box office
Mel Gibson action-thriller Get The Gringo debuted with a whimper at the Australian box office this week.
The Adrian Grunberg-directed film, which is being distributed by Icon Film in Australia, took $340,000 for an average of $2,242 – although it had a modest release on just 152 screens.
Chick flick What to Expect When You’re Expecting enjoyed a stronger debut, but failed knock Men In Black III off the top spot. The Roadshow-distributed Jennifer Lopez vehicle was shown across 305 screens – double the exposure of Get the Gringo – and took $2.431m gross for a $7,971 average.
Maybe because it was shown on less than half as many screens as the top grossing movies? Rubbish article.
The low number of screens wouldn’t help, that’s for sure. Everything I’ve read about it suggests an absolutely cracking film.
Um it wasn’t released in theaters but went direct-to-video, you idiot.
Gail – “Get the Gringo” was released through pay-per-view cable in the U.S and in theaters worldwide, YOU idiot.
It’s also getting great reviews – travelling with a solid 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s higher than “Men in Black 3”, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, and the same (currently) as “Prometheus” which is starting to roll out worldwide.
I agree with Dk, that whilst “Get the Gringo” hasn’t over-performed in it’s first weekend, the fact that it was showing on only 152 screens makes this article misleading.
Hate to break it to you gail but it is released in cinemas in australia. Do some homework before you go off half cocked baby.
saw it, it’s actually a pretty good movie…say what you like about Mel, but he can act.
And Gail, nice own goal…
@Pete Don’t think many can say what they like about Mel.
Great movie – lots of fun and action – Mel at his best and doing what he does well – top entertainment – narration really works well. A bold way of releasing the movie in the us – hope it works for him.
