Melbourne viewers dip to zero for Ten’s Breakfast debut
Ten’s Breakfast faces an uphill task to pull in viewers, ratings from its rushed launch show suggest. It suffered the ignominy of recording no viewers at all in Melbourne for a 15 minute segment of the show.
The decision to turn what had been scheduled as a rehearsal into a live broadcast was taken late on Wednesday night because of Kevin Rudd’s resignation as foreign minister. But the launch four days early meant that Breakfast’s first day got little promotion.
According to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam, the show dipped to zero – meaning that less than 1000 viewers were estimated to be watching – in Melbourne in the 8.45am to 9am segment.
Breakfast struggled in Melbourne throughout its time on air. The best it did between 6 and 9am was 11,000. The programme then stayed on air during what would normally have been The Circle where the number rose as high as 21,000.
Sooo… what would the ratings have been for the time-slot with what was to have been showing originally?
I did a quick look and Nationally Toasted was around the 36,000 mark compared to the 0700-0900 51,000 for Breakfast. They did seperate 0600-0700 in the logs to “Breakfast Early” which is interesting, no idea why they would do that. …
I watched today (Friday) and it was just fine. As a rule I don’t tune in to breakfast TV but I’m happy to check this out again. If I don’t have time in the mornings I’ll record it in my Foxtell box for later The bad numbers were to be expected. No one knew it was on and as the new kid on the block it’s bound to cop a caning but Ten should give it some speed. Best thing in its favour is it doesn’t cave in to the ego zones of its on camera team. That alone makes it a very easy watch. Go, guys!
Sorry dudes: Foxtel…hate typos!
So the ratings model is not floored then. how can a show record such low numbers i don`t it very much that interview with Julie Bishop was the best political interview on TV in a long time.
I watched for about 2 minutes this morning… got the impression that that Andrew Rochford etc were feeling uncomfortable / overwhelmed by the kiwi guy. Gut says… not longed for this world. Happy to be proved wrong.
The Loudmouth, The Boring and The Two Clones (one of you get streaks, for heaven’s sake). I won’t even bother to watch. Sleeping in or walking the dog are soooo much better as options.
TEN would be better off staying with the regular news format, it was their point of difference and they’ve blown it.
Why would Channel 10 think that Australians will relate to a controversial loud mouth Kiwi? Shocking decision. Show will last because it has to, but will be revamped within a month. Good luck
Now that Ten has launched Breakfast – how will they make up their obligations to kids drama that was previously in the slot ?
Oh, it all makes sense now. I usually put ten on for the cartoons as I find these more entertaining then the baboons on the other two channels. I actually was stoked to find ten has this on.
