Meta to shut down Facebook News, cut commercial deals with Australian media
Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, Meta, has announced it will shut down Facebook News in Australia from next month, in an “ongoing effort to better align [their] investments”.
The company informed publishers on Friday that it would not enter new commercial deals after the current contracts expire later this year.
UPDATE: ‘Meta is attempting to mislead Australians’: Media bosses, Free TV Australia respond to Meta
Just because the dinosaurs didn’t find a way to commercialise there business in the internet age ( its not like the 20 years of digitisation wasn’t long enough!) lets just moan to the govt and get the guys who did to fund us. Times up. (and Seven complaining!!! – any kind of strategy a decade ago could have gone some way to help you, now Warburton who did nothing but cut costs – is begging his minister mates to come save him – its embarrassing
Has anyone ever actually used Facebook news?
I feel for the publishers but Facebook do not need news and users do not seem to be that interested in posted links to stories anyway.
Finally some great news.
Makes sense cutting a product that has had an 80% drop in users.
