Mike Byrne out at Super Radio Network after just two months
Mike Byrne exits Super Radio Network
Mike Byrne, group content director at Super Radio Network, has departed the company, effective immediately. This comes one day after the exit of group sales manager Gavin Flanagan, and a few weeks after CEO Rhys Holleran abruptly left.
Byrne has been at SRN for just two months, taking the job in February, after being made redundant from ARN late last year.
He described his short time at the network as “difficult” in a Linkedin post confirming his departure.
“They say you learn a lot in difficult circumstances and by gee have I learnt a lot over the past few months,” he wrote.
“There are a few really good people at SRN who are passionate and work really hard, and I wish them all the best of luck moving forward.”
Flanagan left on Thursday, after re-joining SRN in November, following a prior 12-year run at the company.
“I was given the opportunity to return last year and jumped at it,” Flanagan wrote on Linkedin.
“I genuinely believed I could make a difference and help realise the potential I’ve always known was there. While it hasn’t worked out as I would have liked, I’m proud of the way I approached the role, focusing on building strong teams, improving performance and driving positive change.”
SRN owns 47 stations across NSW and Queensland, including Sydney talkback station 2SM, the final broadcast home of John Laws. It employs around 200 staff.
Rhys Holleran was appointed as CEO in October, and hired both Byrne and Flanagan.
He quit early in late March, reportedly following a dispute with the owners over planned staff cuts. He has since scrubbed all mention of his time at SRN from his Linkedin CV.
Holleran previously spent 18 years at Southern Cross Austereo, Macquarie Radio, and RG Capital Radio, where he held the CEO role through various buy-outs and mergers.
Super Radio Network is reportedly on the market, with the sale being handled by KPMG, although new CEO Graeme Mott told Mumbrella it was not for sale.
It has been owned by the Caralis family since its inception more than four decades ago.
“Rhys Holleran was appointed as CEO in October, and hired both Byrne and Holleran.”
Unless Rhys hired himself, I believe it should read “and hired both Byrne and Flanagan.”
But you’re the subeditor we need! Fixed – thank you!
