Harold Mitchell: My weight loss is a sign I’m serious about staying in the game

Media agency boss Harold Mitchell has cited his successful efforts to lose a large amount of weight as evidence he intends to be at the helm of the company for years to come.

Quizzed on Business Spectator’s KGB TV about rumours of a merger of Michell Communication Group with WPP’s Australian media operation, he said he has always spoken regularly to boss Sir Martin Sorrell. He said:

“I talk to all of the key media people once a year including Sir Martin. It’s one of the things you have to do. They are always private talks. They’ve been that way for a dozen or more years.

“We’re not selling anything of our particular business. I in fact went to a lot of trouble to lose a lot of weight, I can tell you, so I’ll be around for a long time.”
