Ten’s share slips to 8.4% as Biggest Loser and Olympics struggle
My Kitchen Rules won 1.88m viewers for Seven last night, 800,000 more metro viewers than Nine had for The Block, and nearly six times the audience of Ten’s The Biggest Loser, as Ten’s audience share fell to 8.4 per cent, just 2.1 per cent ahead of its digital channel One.
MKR featured Josh and Danielle in the kitchen last night, as they experimented with molecular gastronomy, while on The Block: Fans vs Faves, 1.045m watched as contestants were challenged to create a table for their apartments with the chance of winning $5,000.
Meanwhile The Biggest Loser’s audience gained just 6,000 viewers on last night’s ratings, averaging 329,000 for the network against the rival formats in the 7.30pm timeslot, preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam show.
Ten’s audience then fell to 302,000 for its coverage of the winter Olympics in Sochi on the main channel from 8.30pm AEDT, although it picked up another 297,000 for coverage on digital channel One. Channel Ten’s audience share fell to 8.4 per cent, with 6.3 per cent on One.
The landscape and TV customer base have eaten Ten. There isn’t enough audience to go around anymore.
No Voldemort Ten has eaten itself through an incompetent board and some very bad management. There is still a hefty amount of ad revenue out there. A change of ownership is its only chance.
ahh Harry, I found you!! lol 😉
You’re right, but it’s not as easy at is used to be to secure audience.
Can’t wait to see how wunderkid Hamish will spin this ” we’re delivering to our expectations..” blah, blah
FTA TV audiences actually either up or stable over the last 10 years depending on demo
What about the CEO who just pocketed 5m in shares on top of a massive base. Don’t you think someone should be asking him what he is doing?
No wonder the David Blaine show did so badly, It was 12 YEARS OLD !!!!
How is Sochi, which is enjoyable evening viewing rating less than Sunrise (which is tripe and surely everyone has better things to do in the morning?). As much as it is bad for Ten that people do not turn on even when they have watchable stuff, what does it say about the taste of the Australian public at large?? Also, how can we be sure that the ratings system is accurate when you see figures like that?
This is a TV network who’s board thought it was a smart idea to get rid of Video Hits on Sundays that brought in revenue and more importantly young viewers to the network and replace it with the loss making Andrew Bolt show for god’s sake.
Way to kill your brand and drive away the sought of viewers advertisers want. People this dumb deserve to go bankrupt.
Singlette,
I don’t know about other people but as much as I’d like to watch the Winter Olympics there is no way I can bring myself to watch it whilst its being hosted under the regime of Putin.
This happened to a bunch of female musicians in Sochi just the other day. Beaten with whips in front of media and cameras.

Watching the Winter Olympics no matter how you spin it is providing support to Putin and his regime. Channel 10 should never have bought the rights. It was not only a poor commercial choice but morally reprehensible to in anyway be associated with this event.
I’m glad the Winter Olympics is bombing. Ten should have onsold the rights as soon as the Russians brought in their anti-gay laws. It was incongruous on a network which also screens The Project which has strongly supported gay marriage. For months gay groups had been trying to get TEN News or The Project to do a story on the gay boycott of the Games but TEN refused.
I’m not saying that the Games are bombing solely due to the gay boycott. The main reason was all that “Chumpy” crap that was flying around. It sounded stupid and it wasn’t even his nickname – it was invented by a sportswriter a week or so before the Games and all the other media followed like sheep. When Pullin flopped in his race the game (or Games) was up and people voted with their remote controls.
