Mumbrellacast: Hugh Marks, Carl Fennessy, Matilda Bosely, and Gai Le Roy

On this week's Mumbrellacast, host Calum Jaspan is joined by an array of guests. Hugh Marks and Carl Fennessy chat about their new venture, Dreamchaser, and why they have set up the first Australian-owned production and distribution studio. The Guardian Australia's Matilda Bosely then discusses how she is getting young Australians engaged and informed on politics and news on TikTok, before a longer sit down with IAB Australia's Gai Le Roy.

Former Nine Entertainment Co. CEO, Hugh Marks and co-founder of Shine and former CEO of Endemol Shine Australia, Carl Fennessy yesterday launched their new full-service production and distribution studio, Dreamchaser. In this segment, the pair discusses why now was the right time to launch, how the streaming market will change after Netflix yesterday announced it is cutting back on its content spend, what makes good TV in 2022, and the curiosity of how business plays out – after just over a year ago, Fennessy was the favourite to succeed Marks at Nine.

Then, The Guardian Australia’s Matilda Bosely joins the podcast to discuss her reporting on social media platform TikTok. With a federal election cycle underway, Bosely speaks about how she and The Guardian are using the platform to inform and engage young Australians in the most important issues of the day, and what avenues we may start to see journalism play in next.

Finally, IAB Australia CEO, Gai Le Roy joins the podcast to speak about how the industry body is transforming itself now it no longer needs to advocate for digital investment, how the industry will adapt post-cookies, the switch to Ipsos, protecting privacy, talent, investment opportunities and creating a better ad experience for users on Connected TV.
