The game peaked at 1.561m metro viewers and 2.174m national. It was easily the most-watched match of the day, with Stan Wawrinka’s game against Alexander Zverev bringing in 380,000 metro viewers and Anett Kontaveit vs Simona Halep 156,000.

What that phrase actually says is that Nadal lost and that it was such a shock that it brought 1.075m metro viewers over to Nine … ummm … to see Nadal walk off the court or see Thiem interviewed.
How about “1.075m metro viewers watched Nadal’s shock Australian Open exit”?
