Neil Breen departs Nine’s Today show
Neil Breen has stood down as executive producer of Channel Nine’s morning show Today after weeks of negative publicity.
The former editor of Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph will remain with the Nine Network as a sports journalist, reporting and producing stories for the network’s nightly news bulletin.
Breen, who joined the show nine months ago, told Nine’s national news director Darren Wick and senior producer Mark Calvert that he would leave the show before he notified Nine chief executive David Gyngell on Tuesday.

Its amazing the amount of coverage that morning T.V receives. This story is covered in Fairfax and News Ltd papers with analysis.
From the Adam Boland stories on Wake Up to the Neil Breen stories on Today, why are we as an industry obsessed with the figures behind morning T.V? I could name the EPs of Sunrise, Wake Up and Today, but I could not tell you who EPs of the 6.00pm news on Channel 7 and Channel 9 are?
Any insights!
It seems he just couldn’t ditch that News Corp/Daily Tele blokey mentality. That aggressive style clearly grated on the viewers.
Excellent point Ray .Surely the execs at Ten ,Nine & Seven have got to tell these back room boys to keep out of the press .The hosts and the shows should be the focus of ANY publicity – not EP ego’s .
What, and sport doesn’t, Ray?
Maybe Nine should stop hiring newspaper and magazine editors who don’t have a TV background…
