Television, as Dr Mumbo is sure everyone knows, is a happy place full of people with a sunny disposition.
And they come no sunnier than Nine’s weather and news reader Amber Sherlock.
But live television stress can make people behave in different ways.
And imagine the stress that comes with the impending disaster of three women all about to go on air – and all wearing so much white they look like they came straight from the Pure Blonde Brewtopia commercial.
You can only imagine some of the things world-renowned psychologist Sandy Rae was diagnosing Sherlock with having during her embarrassing tirade.
Watch the video, but focus on Sandy.
She initially thought it was petty and laughed out loud.
…But then her smile dropped quickly as she realised Amber was serious!
Also note how Julie roles her eyes over the matter.
The scariest part is they all suddenly flip to being happy after when the ad break is over! (Amber’s meltdown happened during the ad break).
It wasn’t in the ad break! It was before the segment was rolling. They shouldn’t have put the picture to line, simple as that! It think her reaction is over the top but in fairness to Amber, her job is to organise the segment (not produce it!) and if an issue has been flagged and solution found in any workplace, it is extremely frustrating and annoying when someone ‘forgets’ or ‘ignores’ it.
Surely both presenters acted equally poorly? Amber had asked her colleague well in advance and it seems passive aggressive that she didn’t comply? That said they were both immature in their responses
I dare you all to put yourselves in Ambers shoes! It seems like a “first world problem” but it’s terrible press for 9 if they were to go live looking like that! Incredibly stressful for their careers, you forget their bosses are a lot more scary than Amber.

Psychologist Sandy Rea should get her own show analysing network stars and execs on the couch. She’d take no prisoners and I wouldn’t be able to look away. You’d never run out of guests. TV Shrink Couch? Shrink Couch?

Problem is a male likely wouldn’t find himself in this position because if three men rocked up all wearing white shirts, no one would even think twice about it. I don’t think amber was overly rude, I just think it’s disappointing that people/networks think it’s such a big issue for all three people to be wearing the same colour top…
Women constantly complain about being judged by appearance. In fairness females are far more guilty of this than males. How many men would say “OMG! she’s worn that same outfit to two different parties” and men probably wouldn’t even notice all dressed in the same colour.
I just don’t think a male would care to be honest… The whole thing is cringe-worthy and quite petty, and i do think there was an over-reaction here, but at the same time I understand the level of stress these people are under and this could’ve been a build up of other things…

I think ch 9 should look at Amber’s behaviour. Very immature and bossy! Who knows, the person who leaked the video could be a victim of amber’s bad attitude and this is the payback time.
For me this is a clear example of workplace bullying. Its just a bloody shirt and besides their segment was on air only for few minutes. There are others ways on how Amber should have handled the situation, she could have said a joke that white is the colour of the day or something like that.
Again, viewers will not remember for the rest of their lives that once they have seen 3 presenters all wearing white. Seriously! Attitude is way more important than anything else.

Julie Snook’s composure after that berating was very impressive.
There’s more than one way to look at this. For starters, Amber is quite correct when she said the wardrobe department would hate them all wearing similar colours. To be honest it actually appears that Julie is baiting Amber, with poor Sandy left trying to calm things down.
I’m more curious about who released this footage because I’m tipping it wasn’t Amber…
If the wardrobe people are worried or frustrated by this mishap, then perhaps someone should remind them of the children suffering immensely in Aleppo…

While I understand the sentiment you’re trying to express (moreover, as someone in healthcare with a strong passion for foreign aid this is an issue close to my heart), admittedly, the fact remains that preventing such incidences is exactly what the wardrobe department is there for. That’s their job, Kelly. If they weren’t worried, they wouldn’t be doing their job very well, at all.
@Victoria, while I do understand what you say about wardrobe, have a look at the backdrop of each one. Amber should be the one wearing a different colour! She is the one that was sticking out like a sore thumb. The black jacket that Snook wore, actually made it worse with the color contrasts! Even though she was wearing “blue” it was so pale, that most camera’s wouldn’t pick it up and show it as off/ pale white, but that was okay, as her background was blue while Ambers was very close to her own tops colour and actually made it for a much worse viewing!

However channel 9 proclaimed the breaking news was the arrest of one of thieves who stole a kardashians wedding ring. ?!!!!

Amber should be absolutely ashamed of herself and I hope there are repercussions. That behaviour in any workplace towards anyone is inexcusable.
Unfortunately, I have copped this behaviour from a very attractive female colleague, but did not have the fortune of someone capturing it on camera. The person who has already mentioned this is a power play by Amber is completely correct. If Amber is anything like the girl I came across, she will be quite charming with the right people.

I have always held Sherlock to high acclaim as a journo. Maybe there was a combination of things that occurred and it was the straw that broke the camels back. If anything visually they should have left it as it was or Sherlock should have worn a bold colour, it looks unbalanced. Hopefully Sherlock apologised to Snook when she finished her shift. You don’t speak to anyone like that including colleagues in a professional environment. I wonder if Sherlock critiques male colleagues the same way…..

Not really! It happens more often than not. The only difference that you MIGHT notice, is the colour of the ties, that is where they draw the line 🙂

That could have turned into a funny little light humour ‘opps colour of the day!’ moment or something like that and it turned into a bickering match. What can be said ? Hardly dealing with the big issues and concerns of the day, they are hardly saving lives. Indicative of the way TV News is all about the look forget about talent,professionalism and experience.
Amber only got hot under the collar because she had already asked Julie 2.5 hours previously to wear a jacket. She had a justified reason to ask for one, as she wanted the newscast to look professional, and all wearing all white doesn’t cut it. Julie’s very pale blue top looked white. It was a very small ask. Julie gave her attitude about it, and acted defiantly. I don’t blame Amber for getting very frustrated, she wasn’t asking because she wanted to boss or bully Julie, she was asking because it was the right thing to do on a professional level. Julie acted very unprofessional about it.

This was a wrong judgement call on her behalf, and also is NOT her place. IF there was to be a complaint from a person that does NOT have ANYTHING better to do IN THEIR LIFE, then that person has a medical issue and be accessed by a neurologist ASAP! Why? Because CH9 should have either A: Changed the background colour on Amber, or B: Got her Wardrobe department to find something else for her as she was sticking out like a sore thumb!

BTW, teh Wardrobe department would have been getting the cane for it, so it is NOT Ambers position to instruct what others wear.
This seems to be also a Melbourne – Sydney – add others cities here turf war too. They wall know – aka producers and wardrobe – what the background colours will be and what matches with what, if not, then those people should not be in those positions.
On the other hand, why does she need to be such a diva and asking and getting involved with what other people wear? If she wants things to go along smoothly, she should know what props will be used if she wants a change of career, as a presenter it is NOT her DUTY, this is bullying and wanting to tread on other peoples duties and work!

I agree completely- Julie admitted she was asked. To arrive on set without changing or wearing a jacket was a little disappointing for live tv. The viewers would have thought it strange for sure, like it or not, these things matter. It’s a bit like the cerulean blue scene in The Devil Wears Prada. I don’t think Sherlock was bullying Snook – she’d asked her before. It’s live tv. People don’t notice when it’s right but you sure do when it’s wrong. No doubt they get loads of comments on their attire. I thought all 3 did a superb job after and had we not been made aware of this, no one would have given the segment much thought at all.
She said she was sorry many times and gave a completely valid excuse that she was under the pump. Please get outta the judges chair and don’t give your verdict without knowing the slightest shred of evidence of what really occurred in her hectic schedule. 1st world problems people. GET A GRIP!
Why are you reading this if you’re so unconcerned by 1st world problems? I’ve worked in the industry and I said they all did a great job. I don’t think it was nearly as bad as it has been made out to be and I was simply making the point that Julie had been asked by Amber a couple of hours before which is why she was annoyed. Her argument was valid but she could have done something about in within those 2 hours, It’s a simple workplace issue that was resolved and all acted professionally on camera. Yes! I can’t believe how many people see Julie as the innocent victim in this. She was asked to do something by her senior for very good reasons and then made a big deal about it. I thought amber kept it together very well considering.

Okay, regardless of who was right or wrong initially, Amber made herself wrong by the way that she acted. She should have said to Jenny “Listen I’m really sorry Snook but could you please go and pop a jacket on from somewhere?” Or simply just say “Hey sorry guys could someone from wardrobe bring Jenny a jacket asap?”
Instead she carries on like a bloody child and carries on for a long time. Continually berating Jenny did nothing to fix the issue and if anything prolonged the whole process whilst revealing her true colour, and that colour is poo brown.

Surely what they were discussing was more important than what they were wearing. I am glad I saw this – I will be turning off every time I see Amber on screen from now on.
Actually it’s far from a case of workplace bullying. Yes, she was frustrated, but she had obviously been quite clear with her colleague earlier about what she wanted from her. Expressing frustration like that, whilst not ideal, is far from bullying.

Is it a “one (man)person show”? Does she have to handle everything over there at Ch9? Maybe they don’t have people left and it has become like a small start-up or are extremely tight on budget to hire other professionals that look after all of these matter. There use to be a time when Anchors use to co-ordinate many things, and then those times changed in large stations, of where theeach person had their roles and duties and everything was seperated.
Wardrobe would do make up and find clothing and also use SPONSORED Clothing that would be advertised at the end in the credits, i.e. tie provided by, dress / tops etc provided by, shoes/ sandals provided by… etc, then you would have others i.e. producers asking for specific props, of which would then convey to wardrobe what would be used so they knew WHAT would be used so they could provide the appropriate outfits!
Seems like it is a “one person” show now… or is it? If it isn’t and all the ancilliary personell are still working there, then WHY is it her concern what others wear? She should concentrate on news and articles and read before hand and then to be prepared for the tele-prompter or monitor in the desk or even her paperwork and also listen to the person in her ear…
Oh well, CH9 does not work like this and just Ego’s work there and a culture of turf war between melbourne and sydney and trying to find who the whistleblower is and not looking at their root problem and culture they have there.

I love this! Anyone remember Anchorman? Life imitating art or art imitating life? Such a great little behind the scenes perve into the stressors of live tv news. Ironically, with the black jacket on Julie looked amazing-er and she appeared to have more authority than the other two despite their seniority. I’m so impressed with their professionalism once live though – audience would never have known there was an issue and that’s the way it should be. It’s too easy to criticise Amber, and while it was only a two minute segment of fluff and nobody would’ve remembered the shirts, the shot did look better with the jacket. While they were talking about Trump it feels like the clumsy, over-emphasis Julie puts on repeating the words “leader” and “will get away with it” is directed toward Amber who was the leader of that segment, acted badly and would get away with it. Seems pointed and set up.

Hang on — everyone seems to be assuming this is real. Is this not just another case of Dr Mumbrella being fooled by the industry’s fake news PR tactics? It happened with Channel 11’s New Year’s stunt. It just seems way too over the top to be real. And the fact that it was leaked.
This is the catastrophic event that could of unfolded in households across the country had she not put a black jacket on. “Oh look babe they’re all wearing white” ……. “oh yeah……….. do we have any Doritos in the cupboard?” Yawns.
I don’t know who any of these people are – and thankfully I never have to endure daytime TV – but having watched that I think kudos to Julie Snook for staying professional and keeping her cool.

I agree Andrew wardrobe dropped the ball here, and Julie should not have to be subjected to Amber’s ego and unprofessional behavior. Amber should not have been allowed to go on-air and bully someone over something that was not her job to do. Amber should be reprimanded for her behavior and apologize to Julie and the guest. Amber looked like a jealous mean school girl and with the jacket on Julie still looked better. Thank you Julie for showing us how a professional handles situations such as the one involving you.

As noted by dressed down make news readers wear the same colour and style most of the time – dark suit, shirt and tie. They do not get into a tizz. Why should women. After all it is a news show not a fashion show. What is being said is supposed to be the focus not the clothes. The tops were different in style anyway and they all had the same hairstyle – so what! Just get on with the job of being a news reader. As a woman I am disappointed by this behaviour.

I will set you straight on one thing though, and I implore you to research this yourself. It is the myth that is perpetuated in Western society that the dropping of the bombs ended the war. The head of the US armed forces was vehemently opposed to this vile act, and communicated to his president that the Japanese were going to surrender within the next three days. It is all there for you to find if you dare. The president overrode this advice, the testing was ramped up and the bombs were dropped. I want to see the expression on your face when you realise that you have been lied to your entire life about this. There was a brilliant documentary made about it years ago and I can’t remember its name. I implore you to dig for the truth. It will make you think twice about humanity and the misuse and abuse of power. Finally, why didn’t they drop the nukes on Germany? The real root cause of the problems in Europe at the time. Kind of disappointed in Mumbo here for the lazy “mean girl” set up. You’re all smart enough to know this stuff does matter to people inside the studio. And if you’re in Amber’s shoes, counting down to a live broadcast and frustrated when a colleague hasn’t fixed an issue you brought up hours ago, you probably are going to have words. If you’re Snook, you probably know the complaint is valid, but are sincere about your busy day and feel it’s unfair to ignore the extenuating circumstances.
Regardless of the tone of the exchange, no one was debating whether it was or wasn’t a problem, or that Amber had asked for it to be worked out earlier.
What I saw was two frustrated colleagues and one guest feeling awkward, arguing about a problem in a way that was not the most effective, but in the heat of the moment, probably pretty normal for most people. Seems a bit unfair to make Amber out as the diva with no idea what else was going on or how they dealt with it after.

I really, really don’t feel Amber Sherlock deserves the level of online shaming making the rounds on all social platforms at the moment. Don’t get me wrong – It was the most cringe-worthy thing I have seen so far this year. Certainly wasn’t her finest hour, and speaking to people like that in the workplace (or any place) is totally uncool. But the hate directed toward her is a little disproportionate. The online community needs to be kinder when people make mistakes like this.

So why was Amber, the weather girl, assuming a position of authority and doing the ordering around? Also, being the one in the middle, why didn’t she nominate herself to wear the black jacket?
…because Amber was not the weather girl, she is the hosting presenter. She’d already been on screen filming segments in her white shirt. For a half hour show to suddenly have a costume change on the main presenter half way through would be inconsistent for viewers. Hence why Julie (who had yet to be on screen) had to change. Could have said it nicer though. Or asked someone in wardrobe to help. Or her producer.
So Kerri Elstub the 9Honey Network editor just did a nine sanctioned piece saying how hard it is to do what they do. I find it hard to think that she wanted to wade into this matter with now a growing international audience.
So was this her idea to help out or was she advised from C-Level Mgmt to do this with her name on it. One thing for certain it wouldn’t have been a quiet day at nine between HR meetings and damage control.

Angela Mollard at news.com.au did a write up today about how Amber was right to demand Julie put on a jacket and saying there is no rule in the charter of womanhood that women have to be pleasant all the time, saying women are allowed to be bossy, assertive, sharp and push back.. well all that might be fine Angela but you also run the risk of someone getting sick and tired of your ways, leaking this out and having most of Australia hate you. This video has not sat well with one single comment I read. Every woman has the right to be assertive, sharp and bossy but not in this context, stand up for what you believe in, but being disrespectful, unprofessional and a bully is not what gives women power. Manners are important. Some comments I read say that it is ok how she spoke. The lady on the right would not have pulled a face in embrassassment over Amber’s bad manners. Being professional does not give you a licence to be rude to other people. Being nice always works better. She was asked nicely to do something 2 hours previously but forgot to do it. Then she gave stupid excuses as to why it wasn’t done (she was busy, yet had apparently just walked past a spare jacket hanging outside the control room). She argued about the need to do it. She then threatened to walk out within seconds of a live broadcast, paying no respect to anyone else involved in the show by saying she was far too busy to be involved anyway.
Yet Amber is apparently the bully in the wrong? Give me a break!

The real story here is that they are re-reporting fake news on Trump and falsely stating there were no scandals in the Obama administration. Although President Obama did not have any sexual antics in his presidency, there were plenty of scandals. Perhaps they should educate themselves on Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the Iran nuclear deal and a myriad of of other appalling actions that occurred in the past 8 years.
