News Corp completes takeover of APN’s regional newspapers
News Corp has completed its purchase of APN News & Media’s regional newspapers portfolio.
The deal sees 12 daily newspapers, 60 community titles and 30 websites based in regional Queensland and northern New South Wales shift into the hands of News Corp. The titles include the likes of The Sunshine Coast Daily, The Toowoomba Chronicle, The Daily Mercury in Mackay, The Warwick Daily news, the Morning Bulletin Rockhampton and the Tweed Daily News.
The Washington post is hiring 60 new journalists for major investigative roles after publishing real news proved very profitable.
Will Murdoch follow the same path after his raging success the “News of the World”, The Sky Bolt/LNP puppet show, attacks on the ABC and the right wing nut job opinion in the CM and Orstrayan?. Good Luck with that. Welcome to the death of investigative journalism, democracy controlled by corporation and the silencing of local, regional and remote community voices.
Do NewsCorp produce good regional rags? Looks like they prioritise real estate pages, advertorials for local business, a page of cop news, letters page, and large local news pics as well as at least one social pics pages. Then news, sport, weather. Hardly rocket science, indeed a 1000 monkeys at a 1000 typewriters…
It is horrifying that Murdoch has been allowed to take over these publications. It certainly could mean more LNP and One Nation newsletters for these markets. Possibly even more hatred, bigoted views and a divided public from the ‘gutter press’.
