News Corp ‘in talks to sell Sunday Times’ to Seven West Media
News Corp is reported to be in talks to sell The Sunday Times to Seven West Media in a deal that would put the newspaper in the same stable as WA’s only metro daily The West Australian.
Although unconfirmed, the report appears in The Australian, which is published by News Corp. According to the article: “Although there is no guarantee of a deal being reached, talks have been going on for more than a year and have sparked up again in recent weeks.”
The West has been published since 1833 and is Australia’s second oldest newspaper, while The Sunday Times was stablished in 1890. It has been in the News Corp stable since 1955
It is unclear if the talks include the sale of Perthnow.com.au, News Corp’s digital accompaniment for The Sunday Times.
*cough* “Manoeuvrings “
Seven West Media already prints The Sunday Times’ TV magazine on its Herdsman presses.
There are also rumours that News Corp will actually buy The West Australian, or the shell that’s left over since the Stokes bean counters moved in.
