News Limited leads 2011 Walkleys nominations

News Limited has come out on top in the nominations for this year’s Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

The Walkley Foundation last night announced the general finalists in contention across 35 categories. The Walkleys are Australia’s most prestigious journalism awards.

Holding 30 nominations, News Limited journalists were just ahead of their ABC rivals who secured 25 nominations.

Fairfax had 17 nominations with most coming from the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age, but also one for 3AW’s Neil Mitchell.
