News Limited to become News Corp Australia
Australia’s largest publisher News Limited is to change its name to News Corp Australia.
The change comes 90 years after James Davidson created News Limited in 1923. It formed the foundation of the Adelaide-based empire that Sir Keith Murdoch bought into in 1949. Three years later, Rupert Murdoch inherited his father’s interests and began what was to become a global empire.
In a staff email, News Limited CEO Kim Williams, said the rebrand will take place from this Monday July 1.
News Limited’s owner News Corp split this month into two companies – ‘new’ News Corp and 21st Century Fox. The company’s Australian assets – including its news mastheads, Fox Sports and half share of Foxtel – sit within the new News Corp.
Didn’t they just have a major reshuffle of corporate brands last year? Didn’t News Ltd change to News Australia? What happens to the old logos?
Hi Jack,
That was the leaked plan, but it never happened. I suspect that the News Corp split changed the plan.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
if the lettering is the logo, they even have a small element of ‘up and to the right’ in the uptick on the final letter of cursive. (long dead theory of corporate LOGO holds thats the winner)
New name doesn’t mean new culture…..sadly for News!
