Nine faces accusations of racism as 694,000 tune in for 60 Minutes report on Meghan Markle
The Karl Stefanovic-fronted ‘investigation’ into where it all went wrong for public perceptions of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has pulled 694,000 metro viewers overnight, according to the preliminary OzTAM ratings.
The show copped pre-emptive accusations of sensationalism and racism when it released its promo last week, however Nine said people should watch the program before passing judgement.
Some viewers also expressed disdain for Stefanovic fronting the program, when he himself has been the subject of tabloid scrutiny and judgement. Other viewers were concerned about the inclusion of UK commentator Katie Hopkins.
Of all the positions Nine could take….it’s chosen to follow Seven’s lead from the last few years of featuring disgraced commentators. Giving them a free platform when the vast majority have said no. A really sad development for free-to-air TV and shows a complete lack of corporate leadership and impartiality.
Agreed. The state of FTA is an absolute joke. Cheaply made reality TV programs, unlikeable presenters with no semblance of journalistic integrity and hatchet jobs on people like Meghan Markle who have done nothing other than make envious people irate. Save your ire for the Alan Jones of the world.
Perception and reputation management is so intellectually stimulating.
Why has the reputation of the Duchess of Sussex’s – the former Meghan Markle – taken a nosedive?
Could it be due to:
-Getting your security detail at Wimbledon to ask fans not to take her photo. (We – as in the Royal ‘We’ – will decide when our photos are taken.)
-Secretly baptising your first born and keeping godparents unknown – when all other major events in the life of that vast community of English Royals’ are on show. The unkind interpretation is that they love flattering publicity, but when it doesn’t suit their agenda, “Naff off!”
-Lecturing the world about climate change and then flying private jet – two or three on board, plus nanny – four or five times in a couple of weeks.
What fun for the royals’ PR advisers.
It’s very easy for many in the community to flick the switch to dislike of people who have vast, inherited wealth and essentially do-nothing jobs, aside from activities whose goal, at their core, is to garner favorable media coverage.
The solution? Be like the Queen’s youngest Prince Edward and essentially fade away?
If you want to stay in the limelight, some might say that a start could be to avoid hypocrisy.
Richard you seem to very concerned and involved in this, who actually cares? I’m sorry Meghan didn’t invite you to the tennis or the christening but I think it’s time to let it go.
Richard Craig you seem like the type of guy who collects and displays crockery with the royals faces on them..
Meowwww. A bowl of warm milk for that post!
Good on the royal couple for taking advantage of all the privileges gifted to them. If the British people are stupid enough to continue giving $100M+ hard-earned tax dollars every year to an already wealthy family well, who’s fault is that?
Just know Fairfax journalists – this is the rubbish nine will be expecting from you all soon.
How many defamation cases do you think they want to fund?
Watched the programme. It was so essential to my ongoing life. Now remind we what was it about ?
