Nine Radio syndicates overnight programming across 2GB, 3AW and 4BC, with Michael McLaren to host

As a regular 3AW listener for many years. I loved tuning into 3AW it was like tuning into an old friend. Sadly that will be no longer. I have struggled through the holidays listening to unknown voices, news reports were painful incorrectly pronounced names and locations, voices lacking any knowledge, very similar to Overseas call centers very sad. I will not be tuning in even if it means missing Ross and John in the mornings. Good luck to all the wonderful 3AW staff lets hope a Melbourne station snaps up you guys maybe we will have a mini 3AW emerge from the dust. Not happy ???????

Both too good for that time of night anyway. I imagine you will stuff it up anyway..all you are actually doing is moving presenters about…spreading it thin.
Why does a new management always charge in and immediately make changes….why cant you just work with what you got and improve on it? You leave yourselves wide open for failure….You are dead in the water when Ross and John are gone.

As far as all the loyal listeners and other listeners too that have for many years tuned in, the so called “Nine radio” seems to be absolutely wrecking the radio industry with all the bad moves being made to 3AW, I, along with many friends am not only disappointed with all of the changes being made and at the same time but I wonder why shows that rate so highly would ever be considered as failures, I hope your stations fail miserably, you may be saving money along the way which must be your only aim because you’re depriving the listeners from the entertainment we’ve grown to love and rely on and to have the companionship it provides helps a great number of us to look forward to and enjoy listening day after day, why change the programs and presenters when they’re doing a wonderful job. Hopefully Karma will prevail.

Well listeners in the great city of Melbourne, mark July 1st 2020 in your diary. On this day 3AW will no longer be putting to air any local program content. Goodbye Ross and John, and the biggest shock will be the laying off of Neil Mitchell. Ch Nine, you will learn that the core of 3AW listeners will not tolerate the right wing crap of Alan Jones and Ray Hadley. The ABC will happily scoop up these tens of thousands people searching for a new home to park their ears. You bloody idiots. In time, the board of Nine will be severely punished by their shareholders, but the damage done will never be able to be reversed. Vale 3AW.

Owens. Not only is he boring but a no all who thinks he knows all about cultural things but in fact knows nothing. Phillip Brady has had his time now let other people step in with up to date ideas.

This Nine Sydney trying to make a national service that appeals to all is the beginning of the end for AW. Obviously those who are in charge have never heard the saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” They’ve paid a lot of money and now, as per usual, the cutting begins.

Unfortunate that the mass exodus of advertising has caused the shakeup of 3aw , no fault of there own but Sydney will kill off all the listeners in Melbourne. A talking point around the water stations will see 3aw flounder.

i for one am happy with the change in the end since last year i have thought 3AW needed a refresh Michael McClaren will be great i will be listenjng because i wake up quite early. Melbourne’;s overnight program got boring late last year it needed to be changed. New year new onernigght program . Just Alan Pearsaal’s program i think git boring it it’s katter days and it was time for a change… Luke Grant and clintin maynard are great on 3AW. The only reason I still listen to 3aw is because of Tony and Bianca overnight. So I guess I don’t have to be loyal anymore. Is Darren James staying. I get the feeling he will be going so I won’t be listening weekends either if that is the case.
To the person responsible for all these changes. You obviously have no consideration or respect for Victorian listeners. We are not Sydney nor do we want to be, I do not want to listen to their boring talk about Sydney. And putting Dee Dee in arvo slot, big mistake.

3AW run out of Sydney….yeah na, will never work. Sydney and Melbourne are two very different planets.

Not interested in listening to or reading irrelevant Sydney media here in Melbourne. Starting to turn off 3AW, and will start avoiding the products that advertise on these syndicated shows.

Nine will learn the hard way about radio just as Melbourne based Southern Cross broadcasters did back in the early 2000’s when they let Jones and Hadley go to 2GB from 2UE . They never recovered.

Over the past few months I have listened to unknown presenters deliver pronouncements on topics they have very little knowledge of and struggle with Australian place names that are familiar to all except to the presenters. 3AW was always like a ‘family’, but sadly, not anymore. It may be broadcasting nationally, but it is now a non-event locally.

Unbelievable. Recent programming changes evidence a lack of understanding of a dedicated Melbourne audience. Saturated political coverage by a cavalcade of dubious and unknown presenters is a recipe for disaster.

Absolutely amazed at the sheer stupidity of these new owner’s of 3AW for forcing its Sydney bias on to the loyal Melbourne audience of 3AW listener’s , by getting rid of Tony and Bianca from the overnight program ( so much fun and very entertaining) to listening to some Sydney hack shows how stupid the new owners/management are . Goodbye 3AW , you’ll be greatly missed.

If 9 has any sense left they could put EVERYONE they have dismissed (please no mention of there will be work around the station!!! ) onto 1278 and have a music/ entertainment station. I am in fear of Darren’s name being on that list ……either that or pay people to fill in the ratings book.

2GB Sydney overnights usually Mike McClaren uber switched on patient good listener. Other predesenters Luke Grant good value calm got beut sense of humour. Mike Williams zesty and on the ball. Recently overnights were from Melbourne somone called “Pat” something. I frequency surfed to the ABC.

I think the changes made recently to the 3AW arm of the business will prove to be a huge mistake. Sydney and Melbourne both large modern cities, but that is where it starts and ends. There have always been 2 dynamic unique cities but WORLDS apart in too many ways for this plan to result in anything other than tears????

The original presenters were replaced by Nine personalities like Brian Bury,George Negus,Ernie Sigley,Jana Wendy,etc.All programs run out of Sydney.The late Brian White ( God bless him ) tried so hard to make it work. I use too listen to 2UE then they changed it.Now somebody is changing 2GB.2UE is dead 2GB is dying and I’ve discovered a thing called commercial free books.

Very sad to read Tony Moclair and Bianca have left and the Melbourne content gone. Truly loved listening to Tony while early at my local gym, the callers were great, Darren Casey, thanks for the asthma attacks mate and Terry Galloway with the eye on sky, its been great listening.

What a terrible decision. I loved Tony and Bianca. Plus the regulars who called. I enjoyed hearing from them too. This always happens when you really enjoy someone, and in this case two people the powers that be get rid of them. Crazy nonsensical stuff. Just wondering if this is a political agenda?? I am not impressed with Deb Knight doing afternoon spot when I am listening. Chris Smith was very entertaining and Steve Price was also good. Deb is boring.

Channel 9 muppets. I gave Ch 9 up when Sixty Minutes went feral with their holier-than-thou mock trial like reporting.
As for 3AW which was our station of choice, well, less and less now. The local 3WBC 94.1 station is streeting them with local stuff and a great variety of music.

So DISAPPOINTED !! Only listen to Tony and Bianca because they are clever, smart, articulate, intelligent, interesting and funny. Won’t listen to moronic Sydney people overnight, Enough !

Tony was boring overnight. A Melbourne appointee like Pat who has been filling in would be best. Clinton Maynard on weekends is much better than Alan Pearsel.

A staunch listener to 3AW since the days of Norman Banks, I have listened many hours a day since I can remember. His influence created through “The Voice of the Voyager” show instilled in me a passion for travel. Over the 70 odd years as a listener, the station has had many wonderful presenters, including those in sporting shows. Since all the changes by Ch 9, I have become disillusioned as I hear so frequently of the removal of local, popular presenters. Radio, in Melbourne, is like a comfort food to many. It is on for many hours a day and the personalities become like extended family.
Currently, at night, the quality of the reception is dreadful and it sounds like the voices are coming over a mobile or from an international service. One of the worst shows for this has Peta Credlin and that show sounds as if it’s coming from a tunnel.
Sydney presenters sound as if they have a lack of knowledge similar to overseas visitors. The pronunciation of many Victorian place names is so bad that they are unrecognisable even to locals.Pure ignorance!
Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne are very different cities with many separate interests so it is obviously very hard to produce a ‘national’ perspective but surely a ‘middle ground’ can be found.
It will be of interest to hear how Dennis Walter will slot in at night given his afternoon popularity. Separating a 32 year successful pair like Grubby and Dee Dee is also something to be watched.
I am seriously considering my decades of loyalty to 3AW.

We have not any new on 4BH we would like to go back to music not sky sports so give us a fair go. Please

Everyone here is spot-on. Melburnians detest being a satellite city of Sydney, and will react according. We’re a city of nearly 5 million people – surely we can have our own radio station!

Michael McLaren is one of the worst announcers I’ve ever heard ,his program has too much political content and very little variety.

So we can expect this iconic Melbourne radio station to become even more Sydney-centric than ever before as it cuts costs to the minimum. I hope Melbourne advertisers flee as the local listening audience declines. I won’t be listening.

I was a huge Keith MacGowan fan. The overnighters were family. Topics were more light-hearted and Keith had a wonderful broad range of music he shared with us. I also loved Alan Pearsol. Now we are bombarded with politics, everyone singing from the same song book. It really is so tedious. We have enough of it throughout the day with Neil and Tom. I crave a little light relief if I am struggling to sleep. I definitely don’t want to be listening to a campaigner for the LNP.

I live in NSW but I am a Victorian through n through. Knowing that 3AW has gone Sydney eccentric n 3AW has lost there 3AW sound that is replaced by 9 before the news has lost that Victorian feel n comfort for our wonderful state. It is radio not TV. Im very disappointed for all the Queensland n Victorian radio announcers that have been taken away and ambushed for there warmth n knowledge of there own state listners. Whoever made this stupid decision clearly does not understand how each state works within there community differently to each other.

Reverence substance informative in contact with Melbourne audience Tony ..knows regional Vic towns & can pronounce them…our 3aw has history in OUR town it cant be bullied by interstate cousins ….sadly Tony & Bianca cant be replaced and new broadcadters wont be listened to ..history repeats ..farewell Tony thanks for all the laughs ….

I cannot believe that Nine media have done this to loyal Melbourne listeners! I only heard this last night and am so upset. We don’t want to listen to talk about current affairs all night and especially not about Sydney. Nights they stuffed up and now trying to save with Dennis. Now overnights will be stuffed. Well stuff you, I’m leaving you!

Same as many, been listening to 3aw for 40 years, but with the changes ladt year with all the new angry editorial presenters now nearly 24 hours a day I have moved to ABC. 3aw is dead that is why they are starting to use ‘nine news’. Maybe ‘nine news’ should do a current affairs investigation on how they killed off a bit of Melbourne radio.

What has happened to 3AW. They moved Denis Walter to evenings so now I won’t listen to him anymore. Loved him on the afternoons and Friday lunch with ‘The Boys’ was a must with me tuning in from Bali when on holidays. That’s gone and now you take Tony and Bianca off overnight. What is going on. I am now looking for another radio station. Management have lost the plot.

Bad decision channel 9 there were lots of listeners of Nightline show that reliant on that program to open themselves up to….. lonely people who were infact the backbone of the show itself….I for one will certainly miss the voices of those people and Bianca and Tony themselves thankyou for listening to everybody Tony and Bianca..

I am so disappointed with the changes on 3AW over the last 6 months. Most of the shows I used to listened to have changed and appear to be more focused on a Sydney audience. Now the last evening show I used to really enjoy listening to with Tony Moclair and Bianca has gone I am no longer interested in tuning into 3AW.

Disgusted with the sacking of Tony and Bianca I will listen to 774 now, thank heavens Denis is doing nights the rubbish that has been on, I do not want to know about the newspapers in Brisbane or Sydney my radio was turned off loved Pat Panetta I hope he doesn’t get the shove, and I totally agree with Simon on Saturday night how brave to say what he thinks and I really look forward to his show but really miss Mike Brady, another great loss.

BIG POSITIVE VOTE FOR NEW PRESENTERS AND CHANGES – I am pleased that 3AW is refreshing its programs and I am looking forward to the new programs and the replacement presenters. I have enjoyed the presenters over the summer – they have presented something new and refreshing instead of the dull ones. I am pleased that the new management have changed the presenters for the after midnight time slot – the two previously were out of date – had a dull and predictable format each evening with nothing substantial. Also am looking forward to the new afternoon program with Dede – I will be interested to see what we get from her – hope it not the far left material which means cant be objective like on ABC.

I have been waiting for Tony and Bianca to come back. May be they are too intelligent for Sydney listeners? I agree that Channel 9 bought 3AW for their audience and they are now destroying those successful shows. May be we should all move to 774. The only way they will learn is ratings. So if they lose listeners they will lose advertisers and money is the only thing they care about.

Tony and Blanca will be sadly missed, don’t try and fix what isn’t broken! Sydney and Melbourne aren’t just different cities they are different planets. Sydney presenters don’t talk to you they SHOUT at you, it’s exhausting listening to them. You won’t save money by combining the shows because you will lose all your listeners – me included.

Surely this has to be another joke to do with 3aw’s tallent. I have just read that Tony and Blanca are now no longer at 3aw. It’s quite obvious that the peanuts making the decisions out of Sydney are not in tune with what the listening audiences want here in Victoria and beyond. It’s just another attempt for these guys in Sydney to control or take what’s good from us Victorians ie Melbourne Cup, Grand Prix etc. Guess what Channel 9, this will never happen. Just be prepared for the backlash as Victorian listeners and I dare say viewer will turn off in droves as your program sponsors follow behind us. Having 9’s t.v. tallent cross into radio and visa versa will only mean we get sick of the same voices quicker. I wish nothing but the best to all at 3AW that have been affected by these recent nonsensical changes and I for one will be tuning out of all 3aw and channel 9 programs. Here I come all other stations and good bye to and anything related to the 9 network.

They tried it with TV back in the 80s and 90s and tried to syndicate across states, however they all went back to local content after a few months (& from hurtful ratings) …

Absolutely appalled yet again that Melbourne’s radio scene has been decimated by incompetent and Sydneycentric idiots.
The loss of Tony Moclair and Bianca Johnston will send me along with others to the ABC.

I, along with many others will be ignoring your advertisers that are Melbourne based on these programs that originate from Sydney. I will be informing any advertisers from these programs that I will not be supporting them.

I was a long time listener to sky racing in the morning I moved over to Macquarie when the breakfast team started and kept the radio station on all day even after all the changes glad to have the drive team back hope they return

The changes to a top rating radio station (for no reason) astounds me.
I’m not against change, but I cannot see the logic in how the station has worked will benefit anyone and this new strategy will send existing listeners packing.
John Burns retires in July and Ross won’t be around to long after that methinks.
They may as well just burn the station down and go out with dignity rather than a huge fall in the ratings that I predict.

Channel 9 are ‘The Biggest Losers” with all the changes and sackings, they have and will continue to loose many listeners. Especially with the most recent news of sacking Tony and Bianca. How” Dare “they, I have been hanging out for their return. Good luck to Tony & Bianca, whoever snaps them up will be the winners. How 3AW thinks that people will continue to “Tune In” , what with their appalling frequency, get into the 21st Century, get onto a decent frequency and listen to your listeners, you have way too many commercials, just like Channel 9, that I no longer watch. Send whoever is making these decisions for a “Mental Health Assessment” as they are stark raving MAD!!!!!!!

I agree with all the comments about 3AW sackings. No longer a listener along with the many thousands that will be turning “OFF” , there are plenty of better stations to listen to, on a much clearer frequency, with no ads. The changes over the last 6 months at 3AW now mean there are no evening shows left that I used to enjoy. As a long time listener I am totally disappointed. Sydney seems to have taken over the station I once loved.

Tony and Bianca were the best sound in Radio. I listened to them religiously from Israel my late afternoon to early night and enjoyed their humour, compassion, empathy, ethos, entertainment. You can’t replace them with a mono boring voice syndicated from Sydney. They were Melbourne, they knew and understood their listeners, they headed a loyal and almost loving family, even saved lives and provided a home away for many people of different paths and backgrounds. I and many others others will follow them to which ever station they go and I hope some sensible station will snap them up quickly. If I had my own station I most certainly would. Will miss you Tony and Bianca. Until then back to the ABC classical station for me. Be strong Tony and Bianca. You were amazing

Listened to the replacement for Tony and Bianca last night, boring, an absolute lightweight. A programmimg decision from Sydney, which will be regretted.Bring them back, I will not listen to the replacement, and I suspect I will not be alone.

I have to agree with all the other former listeners of 3aw. Your wholesale changes to the line-up of radio presenters have given me no alternative but to change stations. Goodbye Sydney eccentric Nine.

Intrigued how many people say they will now listen to ABC 774, because 3AW programs over night will be from Sydney. ABC 774 is from Sydney 10pm to 2pm and sometimes until 5:30.

ABC announcers have a National outlook and you don’t realise from which State they are Broadcasting.

Tony Moclair …a most unusual talent. Witty, imaginative and never patronising. A talent like his should not be lost in the wilderness created by the stupid corporate decision makers. Surely an excellent choice to partner Grubby, or Ross Stevenson.

Over the last 6 months 3AW appears to be losing its identity. Every evening show has changed and I have lost interest in listening as it is so Sydney biased. Even listening to Ross and John this week there were so many advertisements it has spoilt the content of the program. Channel 9 is totally choking the 3AW I enjoyed listening to. If you wanted Tony Moclair to leave, why announce it two days before he was expected to return on air? You have lost me after tuning in for over twenty years. Obviously I don’t fall into the bracket of listener you are trying to capture.

Cannot believe you have taken Tony & Bianca off the overnight radio. That programme is the BEST on 3aw. I am going to tune into another radio program In protest & wont listen to 3AW until they return

The 3aw I grew up with is going, going, gone! I lament the Melbourne identities we all loved. In particular, the overnight replacements are BORING, heavy and dull. Who wants to listen to political interviews over night? Give us the laughter and light touch we had!
Change should be for the better! This isn’t. There doesn’t seem to be a plan, it’s just Sydney taking over in a commercial deal.

What have you done to my radio station? First you split Grubby & Dee Dee, a team that has been together for over 30 years at 3KZ, Gold 104, Fox, and 3AW. They bounce off each other and they are very entertaining with Melbourne content. Would anybody consider splitting up Hamish & Andy? I think not, or the Krakoer Brothers, although you dumbheads in Sydney probably have never heard of the Krakoer Brothers. Then you decide to move the legend Denis Walter to a night time slot. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. We in Melbourne tune into our television shows at that time of night The last straw was taking Tony & Biannca off the air overnight. I for one am a bad sleeper and these two helped me through the night I thought it was 3AW talking Melbourne, not Talking Sydney, we want to talk Preston & Prahran, Not Parramatta & Potts Point. Your presenters cant even pronounce our suburbs. The 3 golden rules in business, 1.if it’s not broke don’t fix it. 2. The best customer/listener you can get is the one you already have. 3. There is no such thing as bad staff only bad management. Whose next? Ross & John, or maybe Neil Mitchell. Thank God I don’t have shares in Channel 9. Goodbye 3AW and thank you for the past umpteen years.

3AW have made a big mistake.Tony and Bianca were a breath of fresh air and often had me in stitches.Also replacing Denis Walter with Dee Dee a dumb idea.She is not interested if the caller does not agree with her.Considering not listening to 3AW anymore.Ross and John and Tom are fantastic and I love listening to them .

3AW’s Melbourne without a doubt. To those of you complaining about Sydney presenters it has now been narrowed down to midnight to dawn. Whilst I don’t agree with the overnight changes, please embrace the daytime changes of Dee Dee & Denis.
What is sounding tired and what has to go is Remember When, sorry folks it has run its course. Relaunch it up as Sunday Nightline, 2 hours of open line. The other mistake they need to fix is Saturday nights which is ideally suited to include Andrew McLaren. A play on words in the title Saturday NightLIVE.

More changes need to be made, good to see the end of Remember When etc, but please do something with the very tired and boring weekend format it’s time for Darren James to go along with Emily Power.
