Nine secures trial 3D licence ahead of Olympics

The Nine Network has secured a trial 3D licence from the Australian Communications and Media Authority ahead of the London Olympics. The 3D channel will broadcast up to five hours of Olympic coverage on top of what will already be broadcast on Nine and digital channel, Gem.

The announcement:

The Nine Network has secured an exciting addition to its comprehensive free-to-air coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games: a trial 3D licence from the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

The trial 3D licence will allow viewers with a 3D-enabled television within the five city metro areas – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and on the Gold Coast – to enjoy up to five hours of 3D Olympic Games action daily, provided by the host broadcaster.
