Nine smashes a ratings record while SBS’s surprise hit trumps MasterChef

Nine’s coverage of State of Origin Game I gave the network a soaring win with a 50.5% overall share on Wednesday night, as the match aired to almost two million metro viewers.

The match had 1.981 million metro viewers, while the pre-match coverage aired to 998,000 and post-match coverage to 712,000. And the network set a new record for BVOD viewership.

There’s a reason Alone works – SBS crafted it with sensitivity and human interest at its heart. No confected drama needed. That’s not to mention the stunning production values, which are even more remarkable given almost all of the content was shot by the contestants themselves. Props to post-production – the edit would’ve been insane. Here’s to more humane (and real) reality TV.
