Nine trumps rivals at Logies
Nine put memories of last year’s Logie Awards behind it, winning the night by picking up seven gongs in peer-awarded and viewer-voted categories. Seven, Ten and ABC won five awards each.
Nine’s Karl Stefanovic won top honours, winning a Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on TV. Another relative surprise was Ten’s Chrissie Swan, host of The Circle, who picked up the best new talent award.
Last year, Seven dominated the Logies, with Packed To The Rafters helping the network win more awards then Nine and Ten combined.
You would expect that when they advertised heavily to buy votes…
I actually thought the Logies were relatively good this year. The best new male talent bloke was a total dropkick with that speech, but most of the others were pretty good and there were quite a few people who were genuinely funny. The “In Memoriam” thing was brilliantly done (for once!)
WHO’S CHRISSIE SWAN NOW!?!
HA-FREAKING-HA…
Why did SBS not win anything? I flicked over the Logies a couple of times and didn’t even see them nominated for anything…. any reason why?
I think getting the “public” (ie. TV week readers) to vote for some of the top awards brings down the credibility of the logies. Also no wonder Karl won- Channel 9 shamelessly told their audience to vote for him at every opportunity.
I’m rather surprised by all the raised eyebrows over Chrissie Swan winning new talent. Sure her show The Circle is hardly a big rater, but if ratings actually had anything to do with Logies then how could anyone explain Karl Stevanovic’s win? Breakfast TV doesn’t exactly do huge numbers when compared to primetime, and even if it did Today rates quite a bit less than Sunrise. So why all the mutterings in the media about Chrissie’s win and yet not so much shock over Karl?
SBS is the best free to air channel currently available, the fact that it was not nominated, let alone win anything, really shows that quality and credibility are two terms that should not be associated with the Logies.
@Brett – Probably because Karl is not overweight and female. I say that sadly.
With extensive on air campaigns promoting their talent, don’t you think this is an empty win for nine? The Logie people should ban the stations from running campaigns promoting their talent. It turns this event into a farce.
Did this story really need the “Who is Chrissy Swan” video attached? It was bad enough the first time around!
How can anyone honestly take the logies seriously? Virgil Tracey from Thunderbirds wins the gold after his tv station, (also broadcasting the awards) advertises asking their loyal viewers to vote for him. This is quite simply a farce!
I will never, ever pay any attention to who wins a bogey…
Next!
I weep for Australlian TV
“With extensive on air campaigns promoting their talent, don’t you think this is an empty win for nine? The Logie people should ban the stations from running campaigns promoting their talent. It turns this event into a farce.”

3 – Nine Entertainment Co owns both Channel 9 and TV Week, so…

@Party Cat – you are 100% correct.
Perhaps this spells the opportunity for a credible new award to launch…? Lets face it – who honestly will take the Logies seriously..?
