Nine wins the day, while ‘shit’ Cougar Town sees ratings dip
Nine and its digital channel Go took the ratings lead on Thursday, while Seven’s new US show Cougar Town suffered a dip in only its second episode.
In other results Nine’s breakfast show Today and afternoon quiz show Hot Seat for the third time this week beat its Seven rivals, Sunrise and Deal or No Deal respectively.
Cougar Town, the show now famously referred to by Seven boss David Leckie as “shit” attracted almost 1.1 million viewers, according to preliminary overnight OzTam data. This was below the 1.35 million for the first episode. However, it was the most watched show among 16-39s and 18-49 year olds. Seven also took the top three spots in the most watched list, led by Seven News, Today Tonight and Cougar Town.
In the 7:30pm time slot, Ten proved to be the strongest with The Biggest Loser and So You Think You Can Dance at 8pm rating ahead of Seven’s new hour-long comedy game show The White Room and Nine’s Getaway.
Week-to-date results anyone? Who’s winning and in what demo.
To be fair to cougar town, it’s a bit hard to judge with the show being on the same night as an AC/DC concert. There was a HUGE number of cougars in the crowd last night…
Hi Grant,
Fair question. Week to date Nine (inc. its digital channel Go) is winning with a 30.6% share. This is ahead of Seven (inc. 7Two) with 28.9% and Ten (inc. One) with 20.6%.
Also ABC’s aggregate is 15% and SBS is 4.9%.
Hope that helps.

And to your point Angus – too funny 🙂 …. maybe we’ll see a major uplift in ratings for Cougar Town when the time shifted figures are calculated and factored in.

Let’s not forget that the shares are “free-to-air” only and for nightime only, so only paint part of the picture.
