Nine’s coverage of the 2019 ARIA Awards managed just 417,000 metro viewers on Wednesday night, dropping from 500,000 in 2018 and 515,000 in 2017.
The coverage was also down from 2016 when 461,000 metro viewers tuned in. In national figures, the event was watched by 551,000 viewers.
The event kicked off at 7.30pm on Nine, up against 7.30 on ABC which brought in 535,000 metro viewers, Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery with 492,000 and Gruen which was the most popular entertainment program, delivering 666,000 metro viewers.

The ARIA Awards did sit at the top of the two younger advertising demographics – 16-39s and 18-49s – followed by Home and Away. In the 25-54s Nine News took the top spot, followed again by Home and Away. News was the most-watched offering overall, with Seven News taking the top spot for the night with 881,000 metro and 1.37m national viewers. Nine News drew 811,000 and 1.054m.
It was Seven’s night overall – the channel held a 21.3% audience share and the network held 30.7%. Nine held 19.5% and 28.3%, ABC held 13.8% and 18.7% and Ten slipped to just 6.7% and 13.7% as a network. It barely sat above SBS which held 5.0% as a channel and 8.6% as a network.
But Ten did have the most-watched multi-channel with a 4.5% share for 10 Bold.
As the years go by I find it harder to watch. Nothing to do with which network is showing it, but I have no idea who these artists are!! So after 20 odd years of following the ARIA’s I have given up as I admit I am too old to appreciate all the new talent/music. A dreadful shame really – long live ZZ Top etc!
