‘Not a chance’: Don’t expect Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross to return to radio
Tim “Rosso” Ross soared to fame in Australia as one half of one of the country’s biggest radio duos, but the presenter has declared he has no interest in ever returning to a full-time role.
Appearing on the latest episode of Mumbrella’s one-on-one podcast ahead of his keynote at next month’s Mumbrella360, Ross discussed his time working with Merrick Watts as Merrick and Rosso and calling it quits in 2009.
While dismissing reports there is any grudge between himself and Watts, Ross was quick to the punch when asked if he would consider returning to the airwaves.
“Not a chance. No, I’m good,” he told host Neil Griffiths.
Since departing his radio gig, Ross has gone on to enjoy a successful career as a comedian and TV presenter and has been focused on other passions, including architecture and Australian history – such as his book, Chuck a U-ey – Images of Australians and their cars, released earlier this year.
“I always thought with radio that you meet everyone, but know no one,” Ross explained.
“So, you can rattle off a whole bunch of people that you met, and they spent seven minutes with them in a hotel room or something like that. And then when I finished up breakfast for the first time, and I suddenly started to live my life in a completely different way… I had moments of being a pretty severe workaholic. That was certainly the case with my time in breakfast radio.
“We weren’t just making those live shows, but a lot of TV shows. And so I just wanted to go out and, you know, meet new people and have new experiences and new friendships outside of what I was doing and be able to make connections especially in within my sphere of interest in architecture design all over the world.

Merrick and Rosso
“I’m going to London in a few weeks for the festival of architecture to do some shows And I’ll … hook in with a whole bunch of people that love what I love and we know the other people all over the world and we’ll chat about stuff And you know, I just have a glorious time doing that.
“It’s that slightly rubbishy find your tribe concept. That’s where the magic sits for me.”
