Nova CEO Peter Charlton appointed chair of CRA
CRA bosses Lizzie Young and Peter Charlton must wait until the new Year for the final result
Commercial Radio and Audio (CRA) has appointed Peter Charlton, Nova’s chief executive officer, as chair of the industry body. He replaces former ARN boss Ciaran Davis, who stepped down after three years in the role.
Charlton’s appointment comes in the same week as CRA’s new Audio ID advertising play, which ties together the advertising inventory of Nine, ARN, SCA, and Nova.
In a media release announcing his appointment, Charlton said he’s “honoured” to take on the role at “such an exciting time for commercial radio and audio”.
Great appointment. Won’t help the regionals and, in particular, country stations (or outlets/transmitters)
As a founding member of the Radio Marketing Bureau, headed by the sedulous Mark Newstead, there were around 180 stations with around 150 individually owned.
Since then, Radio quickly evolved, (at the time), the only ‘Network’ was the AWA Radio network with 8 stations spread Australia wide; the legal number allowed at the time.
We now have 6-7 networks representing a huge number of audio conduits. SCA ARN NOVA etc can spin it as much as they like, but the country listeners have been the losers … just another dot on the network map. One can go on and on, I only hope Peter, that this intrinsic City-Based cartel will recognise that they will achieve far bigger results if they get back to their roots. Radio … the local medium … in every market.
