Nova’s MAFS podcast lands in the top five podcasts as Mamamia powers on

Nova’s lighthearted Married At First Sight recap podcast has shot into fourth place on the February podcast ranker, climbing 61 spots in a month.

This is according to the Triton Australian Podcast Ranker’s list of the top Australia-made shows.

MAFS Funny, hosted by Joshua Fox, has been part of the Nova stable since last March, but has never been in the top ten.

Mamamia Out Loud has maintained the top position for the second month in a row, after cracking #1 for the first time in January, due its counter-programming strategy of plying listeners with new content over the usually quiet summer period.

This was a big month for Mamamia’s flagship show. January saw it break its highest monthly listener count to date, which it has smashed again, picking up over 220,000 extra listeners in a single month — now sitting just shy of one million.

The show’s monthly listener count dwarfs everything else in the top 20 – at least doubling every show bar ABC News Top Stories, which it still beats by 463,000-odd listeners.

However, Hamish and Andy returned to regular programming in March, and given the show managed 630,000 downloads in February, despite releasing no new shows, it’s clear Out Loud will have to fight hard to retain the top spot in coming months.

Mamamia’s podcast has certainly built a lot of momentum over the summer.

Elsewhere in the top 20, It’s A Lot With Abbie Chatfield has jumped 18 places to land at #9 for Listnr and SCA, while the network’s The Imperfects has moved seven spots to sit at #11.

SEN Breakfast jumped 27 spots as both AFL and NRL start back up, sitting at #12, while what should be the final month of the Kyle and Jackie O Show moved up four spots to sit at #13. Perhaps those extra downloads were for that infamous February 20 episode.

Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki also went well for SCA, jumping 9 spots to land at #17.

Listnr and SCA have the most shows in the top 20, with six, versus Nova’s five, ABC’s four, and ARN/iHeart’s two. Mamamia, SEN, and Guardian Australia have one show apiece in the top 20.
