NYT bureau chief’s Bondi blunder

The New York Times’ accident-prone Australian bureau chief Damien Cave has experienced another misfire, Dr Mumbo notes.

In Thursday’s weekly email to readers, Cave shared the story of visiting Bondi Beach with his family, for a fund raiser for the Mark Hughes Foundation, raising money for brain cancer research.

Hughes, a former Newcastle Knights fullback, started the foundation in 2013 with his wife Kirralee, after being diagnosed with the disease.

Cave told his readers: “We didn’t get to know Mark before he died, but we do know his family and the way that his friends, supporters and neighbors have rallied to the cause has been an inspiration.”
