Old Spice guy heads down under. And he’s swimming the whole way
Dr Mumbo anticipates some kind of implosion of joy within the social media community. The Old Spice guy is coming to Australia.
And by the looks of it, Isaiah Mustafa’s plugging Windows. And swimming the whole way.
Incidentally, during his swim, he jumps a shark.
Probably not Windows, but Windows Phone 7.
Not even old spice guy can save a Microsoft ad campaign.
First American to do a decent “G’day” in a long time.
Exactly Michael… Knowing Microsoft, they’ll butcher this campaign
Can you just do the exact same thing in every ad you go in? How does this fly with the creative’s behind the Old spice ads? Oh and by the way, who cares about this guy any more? 😛
On to the next one.
Now We Are Talking: http://exchange.telstra.com.au.....-on-earth/
It’s both Telstra and Windows it seems… and it’s all happening in two days!
Is this a new first. We don’t even know for sure what brand he’ll be working on and the doomsayers are slagging a campaign that hasn’t even been made.
Do you glass-half-empty people wake up every day and decide it’s going to be a shitty day and that everything that you didn’t think of, work on, use or like sucks?
@4:49pm : Yes
It’s actually more that you don’t know. We actually all know exactly what he’s promoting. The only thing worse than taking the creative idea from Wieden Kennedy’s Old Spice ad and using it exactly for something else is Captain optimistic talking crap on an internet forum.

Copying an approach that works is one thing; after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That said, knocking off someone else’s very successful campaign almost verbatim is completely another. It is a terrifying prospect that this represents the level of creative thinking going on between MSN and Telstra – and their myriad partner agencies.
I don’t know what’s worse: that someone thought it would be a good idea to rip off Old Spice or that someone agreed and signed it off?!
What next, Bill Gates prancing around in a bear suit while ding various user -prompted activities with a hunter?
There are no words to describe the scale to which this stoops in coat-tail riding.
what a load of rubbish. same actor same character?!?!?
thats like getting the gobbledock to sell BMWs
Too funny… The headline says it all: MS are paying to promote the Old Spice brand.
Hahahahahha. Love it.
Someone will get fired if/when proper tracking results come in. If the brand misattribution to Old Spice isn’t massive, then someone’s fudged the numbers.
I don’t get why he is so popular!?
Is it just something in the male psyche?
But it doesn’t reel you in a bit when he says ‘Yes, you.”
One day we’ll see Microsoft use an original idea, without a very badly placed sense of irony, improve on it and not make us clench both our teeth and our sphincters over the inanity of the experience.
… umm…, yeah
“thats like getting the gobbledock to sell BMWs”
That’s just crazy enough to work
