Online display and classifieds ad spend down

While overall online ad expenditure enjoyed a 3% rise to $466m in the third quarter of this year, it suffered falls in general display and classifieds.  

According to the latest figures relased by the Internet Advertising Bureau, while search and directories grew 12 per cent in the three months to the end of September, on a year-on-year basis, general display fell 3.8 per cent. Similarly, classifieds declined 5 per cent.

Meanwhile, finance, computers and communications and the automotive sectors continued to be the dominant industries to use general display advertising, comprising 42 per cent of spend in this advertising cateogory.
