Oprah reaches one in two viewers
The first episode of Oprah Winfrey’s Australian adventure proved to be the ratings bonanza Ten was hoping for.
Last night’s show, the first of four, averaged an audience of 1.82m, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam. For the non ratings season, this was an unusually high audience and the highest of the summer so far.
It was most popular in the 16-39 demographic, with a 49.4% share of the free to air audience. In overall people it had a 45.7% share.
Less than I expected.
Catching Hugh Jackman gash his head open must have had some ratings pull
Anyone know what the ratings were in the US or even if it has aired there yet?
I understood Hugh was in the Sunday episode?
Hi AdGrunt,
I think that’s right. The video I’ve posted with this story features content from all four days I think.
Cheers,

Apparently 10 million tuned in to the US. has any other celebrity come her and embraced the country like she has done. Most singers come here to make money, know nothing about the country, actors only come here when they have something to promote. She has really showed genuine interest in everything she has seen and done.
Anyone else notice that they subtitled the tassie devil guy? Not only is it ridiculous having to subtitle someone speaking ENGLISH but they also made 3 mistakes in 3 sentences. Mixed up the following words: 2 and 10, 4 and 5, bone and vine. Maybe they should have used someone who speaks Strayan to do the translation
over 10 million american tuned in.that is a wow!
Apparently 40 million Americans tuned in to watch the first episode
Tim, actually it didn’t reach 1-in-2 viewers but it had just under a 50% viewing share. Share is calculated on the basis of ‘active viewers’ during that programme (or time slot), whereas reach is calculated on all potential viewers in the market whether they watched TV or not.
Yours in pedantry – Groans.
Hey Qwerty and Frank … what were your sources please?
I’ve been trying to find a website that lists daily ratings so i don’t have to annoy contacts to get the data. It was shown on the OWN in the US wasn’t it? I wonder how many households the OWN is in (and yes I should know that).
