Optus signing up advertisers as it reveals its EPL app and channel strategy
Optus is set to run ads alongside its English Premier League content and is currently in market signing up broadcast sponsors, with its new offering set to go live in early July.
In a briefing with Mumbrella Paul Rybicki, Optus head of TV, mobile video and content, admitted they had expected a backlash from fans over the decision to make people sign up for an Optus service in order to access the content, but said the new online-only offering was providing “evolution” for the market.
“If you look at Australia versus US in terms of sport being delivered over the top we are quite behind in this market, and this is one of the first times a mainstream sport will be delivered in that way,” he said.
So no Apple TV support then?
It’s a bit of a shame that Optus is limiting the availability of viewing the streams on a TV to it’s Fetch TV device.
I’m also very surprised they don’t develop apps for Xbox One and PS4, given, in my opinion, a vast majority of their subscribers would also be gamers who play FIFA etc.
‘Optimised for mobile device’ not big screen is, I guess, a subtle way of saying you cannot watch it in HD ……. after watching the Euros and Copa America in glorious HD on a big screen, it is ridiculous that that option will not be available for the EPL.
So we can watch the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, Serie A, MSL etc, as well every other sport in the World in glorious HD on Foxtel on large screens, but Optus cannot provide that option for the EPL. Sport is best watched on the large screen, part of the enjoyment is watching in groups.
Are there any instances in which the acronym HD is able to be used without being preceded by ‘glorious’? Asking for a friend.
Yes….if there isn’t Apple TV support to bring the EPL to big screens without Optus hardware, it’s a massive own-goal. He sights Netflix as the gamechanger…failing to notice that 85 million worldwide subscribers can watch it on pretty much any hardware they like.
Missed opportunity.
$30 for one sport is really not a comparison to a $50 sport package – they’ve got to be kidding!
..but it is available on Apple TV ?
Its available on Apple tv with chromecast, Xbox and PS4 to follow
Hi – do you have a source for this? Very interested if the App is on ChromeCast and/or Xbox One
