Over 9m households now on Freeview

More than eight out of ten households have switched to freeview digital television it has been announced in a report by the Federal Government’s Digital Switchover Taskforce, with 85 per cent of those surveyed satisfied with the service due to selection of channels.

Commissioned by Newspoll, an increase by nine per cent to 67 per cent was most significant in remote Western Australia, while the highest conversion to digital was in Darwin with 89 percent having switched (up by two percent).

Digital conversion has jumped five per cent to 78 per cent across Sydney, and two per cent in both Brisbane and Melbourne to 81 per cent while Adelaide is up three per cent to 85 per cent.

“Given that the analogue switch off is still two years away, this latest report shows that Australians are continuing to embrace Freeview by converting to digital,” Chairman Kim Dalton said.
