Patchy ratings result for debut of American Idol but Ten claims to be happy
The Ten Network took out full page newspaper ads for its heavily pumped debut of American Idol but the program delivered an average result in the ratings.
It ran 15th for the night with average five city metro audience of 539,000, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTAM.
The show ran fourth between 7.30pm and 8.30pm – behind Seven’s tennis, Nine’s The Big Bang Theory and 7.30 on the ABC – but lifted to second in from 8.30pm to 9.30pm to beat Nine’s Person Of Interest and the ABC’s Nigellisima.
But Ten claimed it was happy with the result and has moved it to a 7.30pm and not the scheduled 8.30pm start tonight.

A very weak start to what was hailed a key program in the 2013 Schedule.
Looks like more of the same from 2012 !
What did it rate last year on Foxtel i think there is a huge increase on that figure
ZZZZzzzzZZZzzzz.
Stupid talent quests.
@ Sean – I’m guessing you work at Ten – of course it’s an improvment on the figure when it was on Foxtel. Free TV’s audience is naturally going to be bigger than what subscription can get.
Still seems like a failure to me though…
A pity it’s on Channel Ten, a station I refuse to watch while The Simpsons is on it.
Dante – 4th in the slot speaks volumes. That said, I didn’t check the multi-channels so it may be weaker…
Network Ten should have learnt from Nine’s experience with airing The Voice US – which bombed badly after the local show did so well. No-one really wants to watch a foreign talent show unless Australian contestants are involved.
