Industry welcomes Paul Fletcher as new comms minister
The nation’s media industry has overwhelmingly welcomed Paul Fletcher as the the new communications minister after incumbent Mitch Fifield was named as Australia’s next ambassador to the United Nations.
Fletcher served as director of corporate and regulatory affairs at Optus between 2000 and 2007 after four years as a staffer with Howard-era minister of communications, Richard Alston. In the new cabinet line up he will also be minister for the arts.

Paul Fletcher becomes communications minister after serving an apprenticeship with predecessor Richard Alston in the late 1990s.
Congrats Paul. Nice to see another moderate get rewarded for good work.
My my my that’s quite the change of tune from Free TV, who only in April said:
“Free TV CEO, Bridget Fair said: “This announcement is outrageous. It has been six years since the Coalition Government was elected. Free TV has consistently sought meaningful reform of content regulations that have been in place since the 1980’s. The Australian Content Review was conducted in 2017. After two years, Minister Fifield has seen fit to announce a single initiative five minutes before the commencement of the caretaker period that benefits foreign multinational streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime.”

Paul you are a lawyer and can argue black is white, yes? What are you going to do about the ABC? They are in a state of shock, and the 7:30 Report is lost with nothing to report except NSW crap. Do something about it. Just because you come from NSW is NO excuse. Do something if you have the guts?? You have my e mail, tell me what you are going to do? Regards David
Why are the abc always pushing the labor party. They ask who runs this country. They think they do the abc presenters well we did not vote for them
