Pay TV opens its doors to students

The Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) has placed 10 AFTRS Foundation Diploma graduates on short term contracts with its subscription TV members.

Starting in February 2011, each graduate will work for three months with either Premiere Media Group (Fox Sports), Foxtel, CBeebies (BBC Worldwide Australia), Showtime Movie Channels, TV1 & SciFi Channel, Discovery Channel Networks Asia Pacific, MTV Networks Australia and TVSN/Expo Channel.

The recipients, chosen from a total of 25 applicants, are Ashley Bell, Olivia Julietta, Hayden Dyer, Nick D’Arcy, Bradley Slabe, Ciaron Kelly, Gabriel Robinson, Akil Ahamat, Alex Lee and Oliver Kennedy. The contracts were awarded in different areas including marketing, promotion, programming, production and broadcasting.

“These career opportunities are rare for new graduates and we are thrilled to be able to provide a framework for STV to nurture talent,” said ASTRA CEO Petra Buchanan commented. “We have received phenomenal feedback from the STV channels/platforms participating in the program, and other STV channels have already approached us to participate next year.”
