PM Rudd urges supporters to donate $5 to ‘stop Tony Abbott becoming PM’
Australian Labor has released a video featuring Prime Minister Kevin Rudd requesting $5 donations to “close the funding gap” between the Labor and Liberal party election campaigns.
Wearing a red tie and flanked by campaigners in a Sydney office, the newly reinstated PM implores viewers to contribute “if you don’t want Tony Abbott to be prime minister of Australia”.
In the plea, the PM says:
“To run an election campaign costs a lot of money. What I’m saying to you folks is I want $5 from you. If you can, please make that donation, because that $5, per person, goes a huge way towards closing the funding gap between ourselves and Liberals, come this next election.”
The strategy of using social media to ask ordinary voters for small donations is a similar one to that used by the campaign to elect Barack Obama. His team’s social media campaign in the 2008 U.S. presidential election encouraged small contributions from supporters on a mass scale.
I will donate $5 for Kevin Rudd to leave Australia and go live in PNG.
Kevin, just ask the wife – she has a few bucks!
If Tony Abbott becomes PM soon as his polling fades Turnbull will step in. If Rudd is re-elected Turnbull will become the opposition leader and laud it all over Rudd in the polls and god knows what will happen then – Rudd replaced yet again? Ultimately the only winner here is Turnbull. He’s a pig in sh*t at the moment and he knows it and that’s namely because Rudd and Abbott are pack of dingbats. That’s my $5 worth…
The last time I looked the Labor camp had many times more spending power than the LNP….the unions see to this.
Hey Kev: Why doncha buy a pie cart or a Home Ice Cream Van? How about a Scratchit or two? a few Powerball tickets? An each way bet of one of Gay’s gallopers? Raid the collection plate on Sunday? Put the bite on Obama? Give it your best shot, mate…That hysterical laughing you’re hearing is Abbott and the Libs whooping it up on joy juice. You’ve made their year! Oh…and sorry, Kev, I’m fresh out of fives! But do say Hi to Therese anyway.
What about giving the press a 10 minute interview in return for good publicity.
What a cheek. Maybe if he spent less on government advertising and his ridiculous asylum seeking advertising campaign pitched within Australia, he’d have some money. Why give a government reckless with money anymore!
What funding gap Kev? Don’t forget all those tax payer funded government advertising that dominates the consumer media now.
Why doesn’t he just borrow it? What’s another $5 on 300bn?
I will put in my 5 cents worth – ‘So it’s all about stopping Tony Abbott becoming PM. Well, if Rudd’s lot had focused more on the national interest, instead of self interest, then they wouldn’t have to worry about Tony Abbott’.
No wonder you’re asking for money, Kevin. I seem to remember you spending about $41 billion back in 2008.
Beware… the Mobile Billboards are coming!!!
(No nothing to confirm, but you know… Politicians DO LOVE Mobile Billboards)
Of course, Kevin, because you’ve spent the public dollars so wisely..

Oh God help us all!
For $5, you get to listen to the insincere, creepy, Dutch Uncle voice of the ‘fish that John West rejected’ but hauled back into the boat.
I’ll be spending mine on Lotto. Better odds.
Wonder how far $5 will go for the Milky Bar Kid?
This is the political equivalent of the school yard cry “oi gears twenty cents mate” so I’m imagining we’ll soon get the follow up “carn ya stinge” video
So he’s trying to turn this into a popularity contest rather than a policy contest. Well done Kevin Kardashian.
Big Brother starts tonight, maybe he should do a surprise visit to the house to win more bogan voters.
Next there will be a Kickstarter/Pozible campaign for the election campaign.
Pathetic. Can’t wait to see Rudd get voted out finally.
I will donate $5 to never have to see Kevin Dudd again!
what a nerd!! Does anyone believe this guy? He is as insincere as ever. He is a sick puppy. Give me Tony any day. I have complete trust in Tony Abbott..a far better human being than Rudd the fake, Dud.
