Prometheus stays strong at box office; beats Rock of Ages and That’s My Boy
In its second weekend in release, sci-fi film Prometheus has topped this weekend’s box office results.
The Ridley Scott film, a prequel to his Alien films, took $3.011m across 469 screens for a screen average of $6,421, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
It beat out new releases That’s My Boy, a comedy featuring Adam Sandler as Andy Samberg’s wayward father; and Rock of Ages, glorifying the 80s hey-day of hair metal bands and starring Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin.
That’s My Boy, directed by Sean Anders and released by Sony Pictures, took $1.435m across 226 screens for a strong screen average of $6,349.
Cabin in the Woods screen average of $12,165 is huge, and DOUBLE the screen average of Adam Sandler’s latest offering… Doubt it’ll do much more given the poor reviews
When will Hollywood ever learn that these guys don’t guarantee a hit ? Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts tanked in Larry Crowne. Cruise flops in Rock of Ages, Depp flops in The Rum Diary and is set up to flop in The Lone Ranger and Dark Shadows. Depp and Jolie flopped The Tourist and Jolie has flopped in Salt. It’s Time for some new actors.
Bring on The Dark Knight Rises, Snow White and the Huntsman, Resident Evil 5, The Hobbit, World War Z, Bond: Skyfall, 47 Ronin… 2012/2013 is looking AWESOME!
“Tom Cruise” – you are exactly right.
It’s time for the Studios to start using fresh talent that doesn’t add $20Mil to the films cost..
Tom Cruise, did you forget MI3: Ghost Protocol which was a huge box office hit. STars cannot guarantee box office success. Nothing can. But with a good film and positive word of mouth, they can be monster hits. Of course, with a dud film, they can be stinkers.
