Qantas asks Australians to name new Dreamliner fleet

Qantas is putting the name of its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet in the hands of consumers, calling on Australians to select a name for each of the 787s.
Australians are now able to suggest names for the fleet online, allowing them to enter up to eight different names, one for each of the 787s.
A shortlist of 24 will be released with the public asked to vote for their favourite before the final eight are announced.
Previously Qantas’ naming conventions have included Australian capital cities and centres, Australian birds, Australians towns and Australian aviation pioneers.
Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said the airline had a tradition of naming aircraft for symbolic and sentimental reasons.
Joyce said:“Reflecting the importance of the Dreamliner to the national carrier, we’re naming these eight aircraft after Australian icons.
“And we want Australians to help us choose the names. They can be people, places or things, so long as they reflect the true Spirit of Australia.
“Whether it’s a notable person, a ground breaking invention, a saying, or a landmark – we want eight icons that, together, reflect the depth and breadth of this place we all call home,” he said.
Qantas has offered suggestions including Bondi Beach, Lamington, Don Bradman, and badagarang, kangaroo in the Dharug language of the Eora nation.

That’s a stupid name mate, we’ve all seen what happened in other situations. I really think this generation needs to grow up a little and take advantage of the opportunities we are given in a more serious way. #carpediem

My suggestion after moving from Perth to NZ 30 years ago is Dreamtime after just completing a 9 day tour of the Kimberleys incl Bungle Bungle. Real magic just like the Dreamliner.
The Dreamtime is the Aboriginal understanding of the world, of it’s creation, and it’s great stories. The Dreamtime is the beginning of knowledge, from which came the laws of existence.

Rolf Harris has a nice ring to it.
