Qantas signals thawing of relations with Tourism Australia with new ‘tourist’ safety video
National carrier Qantas has signalled a thawing of relations with Tourism Australia by launching a new in-flight safety video showcasing a range of Australian destinations.
In a press release today the airline said it would “work together” with the tourism body over the next 12 months to showcase the video and destinations, with Qantas keen to leverage TA’s huge social media release.
Qantas severed ties with TA in November 2012 accusing then TA chairman Geoff Dixon of trying to destabilise the airline as part of a consortium of shareholders with ad man John Singleton.

It might be a thawing with TA but this is what Air NZ have been doing for years – there is a safety video using ‘real kiwis’ on the land.
It’s very long, are they going to play this on every flight for the next couple of years like the current one?
Umm – yes this is Air NZ’s patch. Cant we think of another execution?
It’s a nice idea but I couldn’t get through the full 5 minutes… I’m dreading taking a Qantas flight now… Yawn.
Thank is pretty dumb communication. Safety videos are meant to perform a function not bore their audience or overload them with warm fuzzy feelings.
Looks great but really dumb.
Sure this is in the same style but not at all a copy of Air NZ. Air NZ, which upped the ante in this space, were heavily themed based – LOTR, All Blacks, Sports Illustrated, Bear Grylls etc. This showcase idea is quite novel. Although I agree it’s a tad long, especially on 737 etc routes. Finally though Qantas has matched Air NZ in terms of production (the one airing at the moment is cringeworthy).
What a great piece. Who produced it?
It’s nice, but to me it lacks the energy and sense of humour found in many of Air New Zealand’s safety video’s. But I did prefer it the second time around.
