Qantas partners with Airbnb to offer Frequent Flyer points for accommodation bookings
Qantas has partnered with Airbnb to offer Qantas Frequent Flyer members the opportunity to earn Qantas points when they book their Airbnb accommodation through qantas.com.
Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce, said in a statement: “The way that people around the world plan, book and experience travel is changing rapidly with the digital revolution.
“We know many of our customers are just as likely to arrange an Airbnb as they are to book a hotel, and we wanted to recognise and reward them for that.

“Qantas is marketing the new partnership with a campaign, created by The Monkeys, which sees Qantas air hostess’ walk viewers through Airbnb accommodations in the style of an airline safety video.”
What a paradox. Airbnb flouts probably every NSW Fire & Rescue and Building Codes of Australia regulation when they use Residential Housing for the purposes of short-term lets. Residents are furious at the conversion of residential housing into quasi-hotels. And with Courts judging short-term lets mixed with permanent residents “fundamentally incompatible”, one could probably consider Qantas’ ‘hook up’ with Airbnb a gross disregard for the rights of residents and those seeking stable, affordable housing.
