Queensland to host Logie Awards for the first time
TV Week’s Logie Awards will be hosted on the Gold Coast from 2018 as part of a four-year deal with the Queensland Government and Tourism and Events Queensland.
The 2018 TV Week Logie Awards will take place in July at The Star on the Gold Coast with Nine as national broadcast partner.
The announcement marks the first time the Logies have been held in the Sunshine State, having been staged mostly in Melbourne with occasional trips to Sydney and the odd cruise ship in its previous 59 years.
The Logies are an anachronism. They are a magazine promotional tool without any real depth. And a Queenslander I wonder why we are spending taxpayers’ money on them.
Let’s be honest. The logies are much more Queensland than they are melbourne.
I am less than 59 years old. There was at least 1 Logies staged in my lifetime which wasn’t in Melbourne. I believe it was held in Sydney as a theatre event rather than a sit down table event.
Hi RG,
You are quite correct, the event has been held in Sydney and even on cruise ships three times. We’ve amended the story accordingly.

The big question about the Logies shouldn’t be “where”? It should by “why”? Let’s hope the new venue inspires a new approach. How about awards that recognise all the viewing choices we now have, not just free-to-air TV?
