RaboDirect’s creepy dream thief warns of rivals’ low-interest savings accounts
Whybin\TBWA\Tequila Sydney has created a new campaign for RaboDirect based on the insight that Australians lose $4 billion every year in interest by leaving their money in low-interest savings accounts. The ad attacks rival banks through a sinister bank manager, played by actor Simon Westaway from gangland series Underbelly, who steals people’s dreams by giving them low-interest accounts.
Whybin\TBWA\Tequila’s creative group head John McKelvey said: “It’s a real challenger’s strategy, aimed at eliciting a strong response from the audience. The creative specifically targets people with low interest accounts and forces them to act in order to steal back the dreams they’ve been saving for.”

Is this the australian TVC of the year ?
That man is straight outta creepy town. Very funny.
I like it, great idea, well done… he is creepy
Brilliant stuff. The facelift scene is a classic
Good piece of advertising. Wish they release a longer version of it.
Wonderfully creepy.
Lurv it! A good ad for once!!!
A good ad, but not a great ad.
No, I’m not trying to be one of the usual ‘hate on everything’ posters that frequent around here, as I said I think it’s a good ad, just not one that I’m hanging out to see again in a hurry, which would for me, make it a great ad.
Load of rubbish, says next to nothing. And all the banks offer rates that good anyway!
Seriously funny…. With a killer punch
Bucks, I disagree although it is of course subjective. I saw this for the first time last night and laughed out loud – it’s been a while since I’ve done that in response to an ad – and have tracked down a copy this morning. So far I’ve watched it five times and guffawed on each viewing.
