Rafters funeral dominates TV ratings as National IQ Test and Iron Chef flop
Packed To The Rafters’ funeral episode delivered Seven another 2m+ audience on Tuesday night, leaving Nine’s The National IQ Test with thin pickings.
A total of 2.093m tuned in to watch Mel Rafter get her send off, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.
Meanwhile, Nine’s National IQ Test, hosted by Eddie McGuire, proved not to be event television, despite the insertion of gamecards into metro newspapers. The show was Australia’s most watched broadcast of 2002 with an audience of 2.8m, but last night’s new version was ninth for the night with 1.03m viewers.
However, Seven had its own reasons to be concerned, with cooking contest Iron Chef falling below the crucial 1m mark with a 925,000 audience. It was beaten in its timeslot by Ten’s Talkin Bout Your Generation (1.23m).
I’d rather watch paint fry than watch Iron Chef again…

Looking at the build up for the national IQ test I am not too surprised about the result. The build up was a little tacky and could have been done much better. Plus WA doesn’t bother with “live” events anyway

Iron Chef. Sooo boring. If channel 7 expected this show to be entertainment, they have missed the mark by miles. It is dull. It is very irritating at best. Guy Grossi trying really hard to look like a Bono rock star look-a-like. I know this seems shallow but has anyone seem a more unattractive weird looking mishmash of people. Too late 7 the cooking thing has been done to death already. Come up with something original if you want to get the viewers.
I feel whenever 7 gets on board with someone else’s idea they kill it and even make the originals look lame.. just sayin..
A million people over 2.5 hours is pretty good retention these days. We live in a age where drive through takes too long. Atm’s don’t work quick enough and we all scream at laptops when they lock up for 3 seconds.If you aren’t poked hourly and twittered about daily you aren’t employing the right PR firm.
To keep a million people for 2.5 hours is bloody next to great.
Clothes off to Generation (Yes it’s a poor pun). Just shows that plenty of people would rather watch semi nude people being covered in body paint than test their IQ.
1m is most definitely a flop if you look at the event rates Nine were charging.
Eddie Mcguire needs a job! he is really trying for the spotlight he had years ago. now he wants to do this is your life as well. Has anyone seen the sunday herald sun photo of him where he is standing sideways to look thin and his hair is all black. talk about a makeover.Guy grossi was just cooking regular italian food while the challenger was creative. thumbs down to so called famous chefs who dont have any creativity.Everyone has perhaps woken up to the fact that the test is not real. i certainly didnt watch it. who has won the ratings for the year????
Weather Boy Denyer has no credibility in the food space…and if it’s about entertainment…the show is equally thin on the ground in that department too.
Tim know your facts before you bang on about Eddie. He has a daily breakfast radio show, daily tv show, president of Collingwood plus god knows how many MC and guest speakers. His one of the busiest people around and a legend too. Surely not a touch of jeolousy there.
When are you all going to get over that crappy poor acted show rafters what aload of crap…..and iron chef who told grant denyer he should be on tv about the only good thing he could do would be a toothpaste comercial,and was there more adds than actual show?
