Re-marking: New Victoria University CMO takes media and creative to pitch
Victoria University is taking both its creative and media accounts to pitch, months after appointing its first-ever chief marketing officer, Mumbrella can reveal.
David Llewellyn arrived in August to lead the university’s brand, marketing, digital and corporate communications teams, with a background in retail, with marketing roles at Coles, Officeworks, Target and Pacific Brands.

Now, six months in, Llewellyn is reevaluating his agency roster. Hardhat currently holds the creative remit, won in 2019, while resolution digital was appointed as the university’s media agency less than two years ago.
“Victoria University confirms that it periodically reviews its partners and suppliers within its advertising and marketing areas,” a spokesperson told Mumbrella.
“This is part of that process for 2023.”
Both incumbent agencies declined to comment at this stage. It is also unknown at this stage which agencies are taking part in the RFP.
Llewellyn launched his own independent agency, Bellwether, in 2018 and was strategic director until moving to the university in 2022. Bellwether was finalist in the 2021 Mumbrella Awards.
At the time of his arrival, deputy vice-chancellor for external relations and partnerships, the Hon. Wade Noonan said he was arriving at the beginning of the institution’s new 2022-2028 strategy plan: ‘Start Well, Finish Brilliantly’.
“Victoria University is an innovative, ambitious, diverse, and inclusive dual sector leader committed to both providing an outstanding student experience and solving real world research problems.”
In 2020, Hardhat assisted the university to conduct its first digital open day.
