‘Red October’ fears confirmed as media agency spend plummets

Australia’s advertising market had a grim showing in October, with total spend down 14.7% year-on-year and almost every channel in the red.

Data from Guideline SMI, which tracks media agency bookings, painted a stark picture of a market in retreat.

As with previous months, the number is expected to rise somewhat in coming months as late bookings for the period are processed.
